Pretty field of Oenothera speciosa; I see it growing along the roads here too and wish it would show up in my pasture... I should try collecting seeds!
But then, there are so many other wildflower seeds I'd love to snatch up.
May your life be like a wildflower, growing freely in the beauty and joy of each day --Native American Proverb

O. speciosa is probably the most abundant wildflower in the area. There are lots of wildflowers but they don't have the coverage the O. speciosa has.
It is one of my favorites. When I was growing up we called them Buttercups, but I think one of the other common names Showy Evening Primrose is very appropriate. They are very showy this time of year.
Betsy, you might want to check out my website for help in identifying wildflowers in Southeast Texas. I try to go out as often as possible and photograph local wildflowers. When I get a positive ID, I post them to my website.
