Does anyone have a line on a good source for older Joe Ghio iris? I have been searching and searching for a vendor who has Star Turn and can't find it anywhere.

Lyn, Star Turn is a beauty, but not very prolific in my garden. I'll look to see if if I have enough to share.

I have tried without success to get Star Turn as well. I have Star Appeal which is not much of an increaser. It is still worth it. You see that shade of Pink once and It's like I would wait 8 years if I had to, to see it again.
If you think there is no more beauty left in the world...Plant a garden!!!

Star Appeal is fantastic. It finally bloomed for me this year. Delicious Lovey dubby
I have been searching online for vendors that appear to stock Star Turn.

I have located 2 vendors that have it listed (though they are now closed for the season) and will try next year:
https://www.dancingdragonsiris...
https://www.burgardirisfarm.co...

I have never bought from either of these folks and don't know anything about them.

I have been to Dancing Dragons for Region 7 Spring Meeting and she has tons of beautiful plants. I bought some potted ones there but did not order since I was there. She has lots and lots of beardless too.
I think Burgard is in the process of moving. I have ordered from her several times and the plants are great. I do not know if she will be selling next year since the move is new but check out her website to see.

I really need to make maps. I gave up long ago. It's been so hot that I haven't gone out to look for Star Turn, Lyn. It's bound to cool off eventually.

adding: I have between 700 and 800 irises, and I'm in my mid-eighties.
They are on a minimal automatic drip, but most are surviving heat and drought.

Thar's a mighty pretty horse as your avatar, Lyn !

Jan, Presto (the horse) thanks you for the complement Lovey dubby

I just don't know how people manage 800 iris! I'm in the 150 range and keeping up with the weeding/feeding is a big job. Please don't spend a moment stressing about me!

I've gotten to the point where I have to get rid of plants to make room for new ones because I don't have a lot of land - especially if I want to make my own seedlings.

Lyn...obsession is the only answer I've got, plus I've been somewhat successful at amateur hybridizng. I've given a lot away to locals, and we have room for lots more. I'm only now getting a grip on my iris love. Have added very few this year - half a dozen new intros and another 7 or 8 from friends (who know what I like!). I've got close to 100 on the deck that runs around 3/4 of our house. I manage those very well. DH and a helper for a few hours each week manage the ones on the land. She does a reasonable job keeping the weeds pulled. It's not perfect but they mostly thrive on very little water and attention. Their beauty keeps an old lady interested in life!

Getting back to the topic. There's a lot of Ghios in my garden. And others!

Jan, your garden is magnificent! If I had the land I'm sure I'd have many, many more than I do. (maybe 800) I'm so excited to try hybridizing. I hope my seeds sprout!

Dang....Somebody just *had* to bring up STAR APPEAL. Glare I had it, but lost it before it ever bloomed. Now I'm trying to restrain myself from ordering it (when I should be out digging/dividing).
Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom

Never fear, @Polymerous

I have Star Appeal. I'm not sure it is big enough to take a piece off this year, but next year I'm sure it will be. I will take a look and let you know. All the iris places are closed for the season but you can plant in Cali no problem. Stay tuned!

Yes... ask me how I know. Whistling (So far I am still resisting, mostly because I'm not taking proper care of the ones that I have, decrepit as I am.)
