...or it could have been lunch. At some point today something ate every baby semp growing in my rock bed. I've lost over 30 babies in one hit. Several of the bigger semps have nibbles out of them and others have been pulled out completely. Crying I suspect it's birds.

But they don't eat rodents. Sad
Those little traps that the rodents go into and can't come out of?

Are the Momma hens likely to produce more chick because these are gone? Or will I have to wait until next spring before they are replaced?

Thanks Bev, I've just ordered netting. Fingers crossed that should help. I hope that at least some of them grow back

Sad I agree
If there is part of the rosette left it should still produce new offsets. Can you get us a photo Kate?

I'll take some tonight Lynn. Most of the Momma hens are ok, just the lower leaves damaged where they have been broken off for what ever it was to be able to get at the tender babies. I's been so excited to find all those tiny babies just starting to grow. Hopefully once the net comes they'll grow some more.

Oh Kate, that is such a bummer. Crying It was voles that ate my plants. Birds usually just pluck the babies off and leave them lay. It's early in the year so I hope they grow more babies yet this year. Group hug

Kate I just saw this post...I'm so sorry!! Thumbs down I think you have plenty of time to get more chicks, and I hope the netting works!!! Semps will send out chicks through out summer, so I think you're fine there, but what a disappointment Crying

Thanks Greg, I have the netting roughly in place (need to get some proper staples/wire to secure it properly) and there doesn't seem to have been any attacks since so i'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I spoke too soon, I found a few more broken ones last night. I need to secure my netting better, but until I get chance to do that I sprinkled pepper over everything. Hopefully the taste will put whatever it is off. Sad
