years ago someone gave me an iris
I always called it tall lavendar iris..

and looked forward to it opening
every spring in April.

Today the one labeled tall lavendar iris opened and I also had Honky Tonk blues open
which someone mailed me last year and I was floored
it is the same Iris!

I had Honky tonk all those years and never knew it.
I love it..It is smaller in bloom size than I like ..more of a normal
size bloom but it is ruffled and the most sweetest smell to it.
Here it is today...

Beautiful pictures. I loved Honky Tonk Blues and tried to grow it for many years. It just wouldn't do anything for me. It was either too hot here or probably just didn't get cold enough to make it bloom. I finally got rid of it.

I don't understand how they can be the same, one is blue and one is lavender, looks like the standards on the lavender one are a bit darker than the falls in fact. The blue one looks like it has blue beards and the lavender one looks like white beards tipped in lavender.
They do both flare out and are very pretty.

HI to all and Calif Sue
the Honky tonk picture that came on the pot from the grower shows a med blue Honky tonk bloom with
white swirls in it..I knew that was not true for my Honky tonk blooming.
Mine will be dark blue in the early morning and then a brighter lavender blue later in mid am.
There is no white on my blooms no shading or swirls ot specks of white on the blooms
as the seller said.

We have acidic soil more than alkaline at my home..
I just put bonemeal to my iris and scratched it in..
I did have 5-10-10 I put near them in February..of this year
and had some Black Kow no burn compost I spread across the top
last fall , leaving some rhizone exposed to the sun..just a little.

That is all I have done to the iris area..
thanks for the comments..
The iris that seems to not like it here is Edith Wolford
I love that iris..but it is yellowing on the fans and
I have no idea, do you what could cause that ..
next to it are healthy other named iris...

I've heard others say Edith Wolford is a "finicky grower", so, maybe it's just that cultivar ?! Can you post a pic of the "yellowing fans"? If your soil leans to the acid side, you might consider adding a little lime, but do a soil test for ph first...Arlyn
