With Ian looming on the horizon, guess we should have a hurricane thread. I'll leave posting picture updates to someone else...tech challenged here.
Be nice if Ian just fizzled out...sure don't need/want another Michael in my neck of the woods 😯😏

I'm on the east coast and from the looks of current maps, our area isn't expected to receive much impact from Ian but we all know that tropical storms and hurricanes have minds of their own. Be safe everyone!

Yep, she sure was on top of things.
The storm is only a tropical depression this morning, they said it could pick up speed but I am keeping my fingers crossed it stays a depression.

We'd been really dry here in Indian River County all summer but the past couple of weeks we've had quite a few inches of rainfall. I have a 5 gal bucket sitting on my pool deck collecting rain water and when I checked yesterday it was measuring at the 8.5 inch mark. We are totally saturated so I hope once Ian makes landfall it picks up speed and doesn't dump a lot of rain before heading out to the Atlantic.

Curious where you all get your weather info. VERY disappointed in the weather channel.

Unlike Lin, I'm hoping for some rain here. The wind, not so much.

We always have to keep an eye on the storms that hit Florida...this one will head into southern GA, but where and when it crosses over to get back to the Atlantic is what I'm especially curious about... Thinking

I'm not a huge fan of the Weather Channel either. I use Weather Underground, but it was sold to the Weather Channel a few years ago, and I miss some of the storm info and blogs they used to have. It's still good for local weather, though.

For hurricanes, I now go to the source, NOAA's Hurricane center:

Curious to know what others use.

We've had showers here this afternoon and we're supposed to have thunderstorms and rain every day through the upcoming week but from the looks of the latest image (I'm located at the southeastern edge of that white line), our area rain will be just the normal summer afternoon storms, rather than from TS/Hurricane Ian.

Keeping good thoughts that the storm does not intensify too much and cause a lot of damage but all we can do is try to be as prepared as possible.

Be safe y'all. Group hug

I see another yellow X in the Southern Atlantic ... another one that we'll all be watching closely; hopefully it will fizzle out!

Wunderground user here, it is not as good as it used to be but still a bit easier to follow than some of the others.

I do miss Ann and her reports very much so, we do need to keep it going for her when we have these storms, was a bit quiet this year.

I like Weatherunderground for daily weather, most accurate forecast for daily temps, wind and rain for this outdoor gal. I do go to National Hurricane center for any tropical storm weather. The 5AM discussion is saying it is getting better organized and so all eyes need to be watching as Ian enters the Gulf warm waters, not too much shear so it will strengthen quickly. There is a front coming down that might cause it to steer a bit NE, but the report says that will be weak.

Thank you Bea, that is lovely.

Normally I would be toting flower pots to the garage but this time they will have to stay in the garden, Praying non become projectiles and fly through a neighbor's window. Phil will be handling the big outdoor stuff like the furniture, etc.

My oldest son lives in Florida and he has called me when a hurricanes was over his house. Sounded like a freight train in their livrm.
They are busy boarding up windows and packed up in case they have to leave.

Sitting here thinking about what I want/need to do. Too early to put stuff in the GH...not that that matters really since Michael destroyed the GH 4 years ago along with what I had put in it. Guess I'll just stick up on batteries etc and wait a few days. Hopefully my son can come help ME batten down the hatches instead of everyone else if it looks to be headed my way. And if it looks to hit Tallahassee 🤞🤞his father, my ex, doesn't ask to camp out here grrrrr

We're still watching Ian's progress closely but the latest local news says that here in Indian River County we will only have winds of 35-40 mph and possibly 3-4 inches of rain.

Thinking of those on the west coast of the state and sending continued prayers for all in Ian's path, please stay safe. Group hug
