It looks like a Guzmania I once had but don't remember the cultivar name ... plant is long gone and the tag was long gone before the plant died.

I couldn't find a general entry for Guzmania or even a general Bromeliad entry in the database. Sad

Most likely a cultivar of Guzmania lingulata. It looks much like the photo on wiki of Guzmania lingulata var. minor,

Foliage grows in a star-shaped basal rosette which culminates in an orange and red bracted inflorescence. It is among the most commonly cultivated bromeliad types, with cultivars producing flowers in shades of maroon, red, orange, yellow or pink.

There's a very long list of Guzmania and named cultivars ..

Look for example at Estrella ..

http://fcbs.org/cgi-bin/dbman/...

The Guzmania lingulata has white-yellow flowers, sunk in the leaves, circundad by Red brattee. It is a virtually featureless shaft that does not exceed 30 cm in height. The leaves are a metallic green beautiful arched.

It is commonly called Scarlet star
