Well, actually, those photos are from 2010. The last time we had real snow.

What we had overnight, was this. It would be best described as, "a smattering."
We rarely get snow, that's why I call where we live, "The Tropic of Trafford."

In other years, this much would normally clear by mid-afternoon. But with the such low temperatures we are presently experiencing, which are forecasted to last over a week, it won't and we might get some more snow yet.

This is true, but unfortunately. ours has already started to turn to slush, as it is no longer freezing at the moment.

I know what you mean. Even in my zone our weather is still unseasonably warm, and the snows we had a few days ago were half snow/half slush that looked a bit white for a few hours at most. We're back to nothing but damp looking sidewalks again, no snow anywhere. Next Friday might even hit 51F again, I think winter might skip a year at this point.

Some of you winter is headed here instead- we're having a cold late fall!

Those snow pictures were so pretty. I love it too, how it looks on everything. Of course, people lose their minds here over snow. End of the world.. D'Oh! With the cold so far, I am hopeful for snow this year, it has been I think 12 years since our last whopper.

Wait, that wasn't even a big big one.

Now that was worth losing one's mind over.
Plant it and they will come.

It all depends on what you're used to. Seldom getting snow means people really don't know how to drive in it. Here it's really odd to not have snow. We've had snow storms even the end of April covering the magnolia flowers that are in full bloom.

We've had some doozies though even for us by Lake Michigan. There were 2 really bad blizzards that I can recall where you couldn't even move cars in the city. In 1967 I remember helping my dad carry groceries home a few miles walking, there was no way anyone was moving their car for any reason.

Then in 1979 that snowstorm lost the election for a Chicago mayor, but honestly there's no way in the world anyone would have been prepared for that winter. It was far more snow than usual and constantly cold weather, so nothing melted for months. There was literally no place left to move any more snow to and it just kept coming and coming that year, the city had run out of salt. I had a GMC Jimmy and lived close to work, so I was able to get around and get to work easily. Coming home late one night I had to push another car down a street, the guy was literally begging me because I was reluctant in case of any damage, he didn't care. One of the city snow plow drivers went nuts while on the job and started just intentionally smashing into cars with the snow plow.

Loving snow and skiing as I do, I was happy... I even wore one of my "Think Snow" shirts to work one day and had everyone swearing at me as they walked in. Hilarious!

My golf club is in the Mersey Valley along with several others, as well as small farms, sports grounds and a water park, in south Manchester. There's residential areas, either side along its length.

Playing golf in late April when it can be quite warm, on one part of the course which is slightly higher than the rest, sometimes you can see the still snow-capped Pennines only a few miles away to the East.

But we need the snow for insulating plants during the brutal cold, so that is nice I guess. I do admit it is pretty and brightens up the night.
Love that Japanese garden that was posted!

I agree
Especially when it drags on into March, April... D'Oh!

Or when it starts melting and then re-freezes into slick ice Thumbs down

It's the refrozrn bumpy dirty slushy parking lot mess that gets so annoying!
Snow blanket is good for the earth, feels like the soil critters must be cozy.
Plant it and they will come.

Here is the north Georgia mountains, we may get snow once or twice a winter, or maybe not at all. We just sit at home for a day or two until it melts. This is from last February.

People in the UK of my age aren't "centigrade folks," by choice.

Nor are we "kilometre folks," Cars here at least have speedometer readings in MPH.

I still use feet and inches when I'm measuring stuff.

I like your attitude. : ) The cars over here have both too. It's more fun to drive in mph I think, you get to go faster at the same speed. LOL!

Way back when I was in grade school? middle school maybe? there was supposed to be a change to using the metric system in the USA ... I wonder what ever happened to that?
