I was about to post this on the ID needed forum when it suddenly came to me that it's a Veronicastrum virginicum I thought I had killed about 5 years ago. I must have left a tiny piece of the root in the ground and it's returned looking big and healthy. Guess I will go ahead and let it bloom. If I remember right, I tried to kill it because it seemed to be a magnet for bees and bugs plus the flowers didn't last very long but I'm going to give it another chance. I'll post some photos when it looms. I'm just amazed at the amount of weed killer I put on it years ago and it still made it.
