Hello
I am interested in hostas with blue foliage
I have the giant Xanadu Empress Wu and the small (but lovely!) Blue mouse ears
Can you give me some tips in choosing hosta with glaucus foliage ?

Take a look at Don Rawson's hosta lists http://www.pwk.resteddoginn.ca...

One of them is of blue hostas.

Or Google "blue hostas". You'll find lots of info. Then, if you want more info, look up each variety using Google or the Hosta Library. Only you can decide how blue you want them to be, how large a mound or leaf, what shape of leaf you want and whether you want them to be wavy or not or whether you want a hosta that is variegated but with a lot of blue in it.

Good luck, but be careful. It can become addictive.

If you just go to the database here and type (hosta blue) all kinds of beauties show up .
I have blue cadet , it multiplies very well, is dark and even looks good in deep shade, but I have seen better blues.
..a balanced life is worth pursuit.

The blue ones I have vary quite a lot. You can see pics by following the link below.

'Baby Bunting' is VERY small but fast growing.

'Blue Cadet' is a bit larger, but still fast growing. I'm making mine into a border in a dark garden where a lot of hostas have failed to thrive.

'Blue Mouse Ears' is a good one, but still small. Thought to be a sport of 'Blue Cadet'. Thicker, rounder leaves.

'Blue Ice' is a slower growing small blue.

'Blue Wedgwood' is larger but mine doesn't grow particularly fast. Nice powdery blue which holds well during the season.

'Bulletproof' is a tough blue hosta - maybe a tetraploid.

'Full Moon' I've found to be really slow growing and I'm planning to give mine to a friend.

'Halcyon' or any of the Tardiana blues are nice plants. My 'Halcyon' is not particularly fast growing, but it holds its colour well.

'Salute' is a nice upright blue.

I don't have it, but 'Pewterware' is a nice blue too.

Those are the solid blues I have. But it's worth considering some that are blue with margins or have a lot of blue in them like 'Frosted Dimples', 'Deja Blu', 'Fragrant Bouguet', 'Touch of Class', or even 'June'.

What about 'Blue Angel'? Don't you think that is a good blue? Seems like a good blue. Blinking

I just don't have it or really know it. Quite large isn't it? I mostly have mini - medium size hostas.

I remember it was sun and slug tolerant, don't remember the size but I think you are right.

I think I want one, I could probably find a place. I don't have too many blues because the wax melts. I count myself lucky to have a Hosta garden. I am pushing it zone wise. Whistling

Yes, the more I hear about Blue Angel the more I like it. I think I have a blue cadet already, got one off the bargain bench at Santa Rosa Gardens. Don't know much about Baby Bunting. Halcyon does good here also.(pic.)

I do not have that many blues, the heat here melts the wax coating on the blue hostas but I do have a few that do good. This is one of my favs because it is always beautiful.
