Just curious-when should I plant my Caladiums outside in their containers? Usually I start them indoors on a heat mat under lights but got a late start this year. It's still been cool at night. The instructions that came with my bulbs say after temps are >65 degrees, but I'm wondering if I can push that a little bit?

Caladiums like warmth!
These are being sprouted in the house, and will be planted in containers.
They do not go outside until night time temperatures are warm.
In light of your crazy weather-I'd hold off putting them outside.
Thanks! Maybe June 1st if the weather is better? I still don't think it will be >65 degrees at night (though it's supposed to be 90 degrees tomorrow.......). I usually do sprout them inside but didn't get my bulbs in time this year-unless you think I should still do that-on heat mats under lights until June 15th or so?

I'd definitely start them now -indoors or someplace warmer outdoors. I have canna started in a shallow pot that's doing well in a sheltered area on the south side of my house. If temps fall much below 45 I bring them into a warmer place. We had 34 degrees and frost overnight so I set them in a working compost pile with a cover over them. They were nice and toasty-warm this morning.
Got them planted this morning-I'll plan to give them a month or so under the lights on the heat mats before going outside. Thanks for your suggestions!
We are just about to have warmer weather ,but some good rains so I am getting seeds in the ground.
I am potting the Caladiums ,but keeping them inside until hot weather comes.
They're still in my basement-not sure if it will warm up enough for them to go outside this summer! My pot of Elephant Ears is out, but it's sitting on a heat mat...ummm, excuse me, it's June 3rd today!

My Elephant Ears and begonias are out and will have to make it or break it on their own (46 degrees here the last two nights). My caladiums and canna are still sitting on a working compost pile under cover, but they'll want to get out soon, too.

Christine, I am sorry it is still so cold in your neck of the woods, I hope it warms up real soon. .
It has been nice here the past few days, in the seventies, some clouds, and breezy. I have been really working hard getting the annuals in the containers and the ground, still have lots to do, I think I started too many seeds and bought too many plants!

Exactly!! My hubby doesn't get it, never can understand why I work so hard. He hates gardening, he cuts the grass and trims the weeds outside the back fence, then he goes fishing. But he is good, if I need something heavy moved or a new large hole dug he will do it, takes all of the garden waste to recycle.
Another damp 50 degree morning here-just patiently waiting for summer:) I don't think I'll ever get the tomatoes in-I know they wouldn't do well with these low temps-maybe some Early Girls...........

I have a few tomato plants with fruit, but they're clearly not at their happiest as far as temps go...not yet. I'm kind of surprised that the squash seeds are sprouting.
Caladiums still aren't out yet, but the pansies and greens sure are happy with the cool weather.
