These are some of the pots (LOL 2 liter bottles), that I planted my trumpets and orientals in. I planted these in April.

To give you an idea of my weather. These are my orientals from last year. I left them out in the open with no cover at all, thru all of the freezes we had this past winter. We have never had such a cold winter. But, in spring, they started coming back up. I couldn't believe it.

This is them yesterday. Some have already bloomed. Some not yet. They are still in the same pots. So, do I leave my tulips, paperwhites, and hyacinths in the pots or how should I handle them.

You're much warmer than we are, do you have to cool your bulbs to get them to bloom? If not, I'd just stick 'em in the ground!

Oh yes Susan. I had them in the frig for at least 3 1/2 months. Do I need to dig them up and whatever comes next? If so, if you have time, please tell me the steps of what and when to do them. Thanks so much. Oh, and my tropicals are doing so pretty. Thank you.

Oh Charlene, I love your container. I have got to either paint or buy me a container that color. So pretty. And I know all about the potting soil. Man, I certainly use a lot.

Hi Debbie, glad your tropicals are doing well, mine survived my vacation (under DH's care), which was amazing!!

I use a lot of soil too but never thought of getting a pallet full. Will they deliver a pallet, or dig you pick it up, Charlene?

Debbie, I'm afraid you are out of luck as far as my knowledge of putting plants in the frig. I've never done that! I would think you'd leave them in the pots until fall, then move them into the fridge, but I'm sure someone will come along with some good info for you. JMoth has some pictures up at the top of the thread of some pots in the fridge...

Yes it is nice to have. It was a shop fridge and , like everything else, I have confiscated it for my garden. Well, speaking of potting soil, I'm heading back to the store for more. Smiling

I keep telling my husband or my son, when they are going to town, "I need more dirt". LOL As much as I have bought, I should have a mountain over here.

Debbie, spring bulbs like to be dry during their summer dormancy, and hot and dry is just fine with them. Tulips are especially particular about this, while Daffodils and to some degree Hyacinths are more tolerant of summer moisture. Tulips are also more demanding of a cold treatment too. So here's what I would do:
- remove the bulbs from the soil and allow them to dry. (I would likely go ahead and plant the Daffodils, but it would be fine to store them too)
-store them where it is warm and dry, with good air circulation.
-for the Tulips, I believe I'd go ahead and try cooling them, since they're already dug. I would refrigerate them for 6-8 weeks, probably through September and October.
-the Hyacinths I think I would plant this fall without worrying with cooling. There's a DG member in California, zone 9, experimenting with several varieties and having excellent return from many.

And your potted bulb display was so pretty! Are you setting the pots of Lilies where you're considering planting them? Once they're in bloom I love to do that, and get a good idea how its going to look in the spot.

Charlene, your red, white, and blue display is gorgeous! Great use of potted bulbs!

Oh Neal. Thank you so much for the info. Your going to laugh, but now that they are just yellowed foliage, I'm not sure which are which. I planted them all in the one large long pot and 2 other round pots. So I will go ahead and dig them up and let them dry and store them. I guess I'll have to refrigerate all of them, but that is not a problem. And thank you for the compliment. Yes, I will probably put them in about the same place. I re did my beds. Perennials are the back bone and I will just keep potting the annuals and setting them around where they look the prettiest and are getting the exposure needed. Thanks again for the info.

You'll probably be able to tell when you see the bulbs. If you can't tell, just post pics and we can point them out to you.
