About 2 years ago one of mine set seed. I'm still getting little surprise plants all over the place!

That is wonderful to hear Chris.

Have you had any of them bloom for you twitcher? Or does winter weather catch them before the see matures?

Most of the ones I have bloom but the blooms are too late for seed, as far as I've been able to determine. But perhaps the ants carry them (seeds) away before I can see the ripe ones.

Hi All,
Sorry to be absent for a few weeks, but the greenhouses are continuing to keep me crazy-busy! I was reading thru this thread of Orostachys and they are one of my favorite groups of plants. As they begin their late-summer flower show, I move them into our greenhouses to allow them time to fully develop seeds. I should have some cool seeds to share in December or so.
This is a picture of my 1-gallon pot of Orostachys malacophylla. I love its shiny green leaves, almost like plastic!

Same here Chris, if you have enough to share. Mine is not going to make seed before winter hits.

My O. malacophylla never sets seed either. It's the very last thing to bloom here and is always loaded with bumblebees. Season's just too short, I guess.

After seeing Chris's Orostachys seedling, I googled orostachys iwarenge and saw several pictures that look like this:

Thumb of 2018-07-18/tcstoehr/e95257

Is this a real thing? I'm suspicious cuz I see it mostly on Amazon and Ebay. If it is real then why don't we all have one? Or do we? It seems awesome.

Not a great picture, I didn't want to post an unauthorized image, so I cut it down. Here's an Ebay listing:

It did look quite suspicious. Good thing I only ordered one dozen. Hilarious!
I do recall seeing an Echeveria cultivar just like this. Quite attractive but not hardy.

Tim, those bright green and white succulents are NOT Orostachys, and nothing like pale gray-leaved iwarenge. I posted a photo of iwarenge to the NGA database recently, lots of it here.

I looked further down the page that Tim's link went to, pass the description and to the section showing photos of other plants that the seller offered and everything looks to be out-of-this-world coloring. Is all that for real?...cuz if it is, then like Tim asks, "If it is real then why don't we all have one?"

Oh brother... I didn't even look down the page to see all that fakery. The lovely white-green picture was featured by several different vendors so I thought it might be real. It is real, just not the same species as advertised. How can this guy have a 97.3 positive feedback ranking. Confused
