I spotted this little Skipper in the garden today. I've looked through my B'fly book but I'm still not sure of it's identity. I'm thinking the Tawny-edged Skipper maybe? I enlarged and cropped the photo for a closer look:

Thanks Marilyn, I found it in my book "Butterflies of Florida" and then googled for additional images ... I'm pretty sure it's the Tawny-edged Skipper.

Name: Margaret Near Kamloops, BC, Canada (Zone 3a)
They are small evergreen shrubs that bloom in the spring, they smell fantastic, they like it warm and dry, I am pushing the zone a little with them, lowest is 4 and I'm 3a.
I think this is Rawson's Metalmark...there are several similar metalmarks in Texas. Small butterfly, but cute!
I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority. E. B.White

I had seen a ragged Texas Crescent butterfly around here lately. Probably a female...because there's little caterpillars on a bunch of False Mints (Dicliptera brachiata) on my place...LOTS of caterpillars! I don't even want to know how many are here! I brought some in to raise, but I'm not looking for any more. That's one of those species that can sometimes lay quite a few eggs, on the assumption that few of them will survive.
