Desertkoigal, here is some info, the first link gives some history of sempervivum cultivation, which explains why its important not to "guess" at a cultivar. There are many of us on here who have what we call 'NOID's meaning No identification. If someone has many cultivars that look alike and have lost their label it may be better to call them NOIDs Shrug!
Toby from Young's garden center video taped and posted these. They are from a workshop which happened in April.
Also, for those who did not receive a copy of the handout and want it, Toby has scanned it and converted it to a pdf file.

Thanks all, for the warm welcome ! Plant people are so nice. Thanks Greg, for all the links and info, I'll be viewing them all soon and appreciate all the help. I will post pics as soon as I can get them together and see what you all think, but promise to not going around saying they are a certain subspecies, unless I have a labelled plant, as I got the point about never being sure unless you are sure.
It reminds me of what somebody told me once was the universal answer to any engineering question "It Depends". Hilarious!
Point well taken.

I just discovered (I searched "semp" looking for this forum) some areas on the site here that have tutorials and other useful info. I have a lot of reading to do -this will be great fun. Thanks everyone ! I tip my hat to you.

Hi all, clarification - I didn't write that about the handout...I "cut and pasted" what Toby wrote, I think the handout thing was already posted by him (probably in the "Hybridizing with Kevin clinic" thread)
DesertKoigal - what is a desert koi??? (been trying to figure that one out - could it be a lizard of some sort??) Rolling on the floor laughing Thumbs up

And was it ever hot here in Las Cruces, 96°.
Can't wait to get home and visit the Gieger semps and see how they are doing.

Lynn: I live in Tucson, Arid-Zona which I think is Zone 9. Down as low as 20°F in the winter (sometimes lower) and, well, derned hot in the summer!

Greg: I watched all the video you posted. It was really interesting! Thanks for putting that up for me. Desertkoigal is a carryover from my sordid past. Sticking tongue out I used to be a koi breeder here in Tucson. In case folks don't know what a koi is, it's the big long Japanese goldfish that you see gliding around in ponds, especially those in Japanese gardens. I still have a small number of koi, and consequently a much nicer water garden, so the name has stayed.

Anyhow, I do appreciate the warm welcomes, but I feel I have unintentionally hijacked this thread, so I will get some photos together and put them up on a new thread soon. *Blush*

Twit, what is your weather like now? In what conditions did you keep your Geiger plants? Did you do anything special to get them going? Fertilize?

Twit, Any chance Jovibarba rollers were part of this trade? I've communicated with Erwin about trading for some of what he offers and I will be back in touch with him soon.

Mark, 'August Cream' was from him and would be considered a roller. Another name for it would be Jovibarba sobolifera 'August Cream'. If you are working on a trade, you might want to consider obtaining some of his Orostachys. He has a number of them that are apparently not available in the US as far as I can determine. Take a look at the "meet the Orostachys" thread if interested.

Solist has been a challenge to keep alive but now appears to be growing. Giftzwerg was damaged and developed the double rosette. It needs to be divided so that each rosette can grow to proper form, but I have been waiting for it to size up more.

Hi everybody. This is just a note to let you know that I have edited the original post of this thread to consolidate all the pics I have so far in one place. That makes it easier for me to find out what I've posted so far, and makes comparing them easier as well. So it is worthwhile to go back to the beginning of the thread to take another look.
