I thought I'd share a couple of pictures of my succulents. I don't know much about succulents but a couple of months ago I stuck a few little Echeveria, Sedum, etc.into two bowls/dish gardens. I used only orchid bark mix and they've done really well but it looks like we are getting into our normal summer rainy pattern; we had 5" of rain a few days ago so now I'm moving them into the porch if it looks like rain so that they don't rot.

One of my succulent bowls:

Echeveria top left: I can't remember the name, maybe 'Elegans'? Plant and buds, both smooth:

Top right, labeled 'Fleur Blanc':

Bottom right: labeled E. 'Santa', both plant and buds have a soft, fuzzy feel:

My other Succulent dish garden has Echeveria 'Black Prince' (thanks to someone here who ID'd it for me! This one also includes mis. Sedum:

Lovely succulent dish gardens Lin! Lovey dubby I have tried using orchid bark mix with one of my succulent container only as top dressing. It is good during the very hot dry days, helps retain some moisture, but a little dicey during our wet winters.

tarev: We have such high humidity almost year round down here; and during our summer rainy season things can rot quickly. The combination of saturated bark combined with the almost constant humidity makes for some very unhappy succulents ... so I move them to the covered porch for awhile.

Yeah that's good you can move it to a dry spot. That's why I only tried using orchid bark on one container of mine. I remember when I visited Manila 2 years ago, which has similar high humidity and rainy season, I got a new Jade plant and it just won't grow the way I grow it here, even if grown indoors near a window...poor thing..then I realized..the humidity, it is too much for the plant.

Lin, thanks for sharing your succulent gardens. I have the variegated Crassula marginalis rubra "Calico Kitten" (2nd bowl, bottom right) in one of my planters and it is spreading nicely and starting up buds. I've been happy with the look of that one as you must also?

Bev: Someone on here identified the 'Calico Kitten' for me and yes, I like that one a lot. My plant hasn't bloomed yet so I would love to see photo's of the buds and blooms of yours! My little plant had a lot more color a couple of months ago. Then I moved it to where it was getting only morning sun and the colors faded. I originally moved it because the squirrels were digging in the bowls and planting their acorns, meanwhile exposing the roots of my plants! Grumbling

I do prefer the more vivid coloration when it receives more sun:
