the flower head is much closer to the leaves than I am use to seeing.

Thank you Cinda, it is a self-set and a surprise for me. I was amazed what shady spot it chose, it hardly gets any sun at all, just about an hour around midday. That was the first flower opening, now that it is getting a little older there is a bluish tone on it.
So far i have only got Aquilegia caerulea and its cultivars, but a long time, more than 10 years ago I had grown the blue Aquilegia vulgaris from seed and I wonder if that is a descendant from it, I have no idea how long the seed is viable..
