Wow you got yourself a great bargain. Always nice to know people like that when your in a pinch.

So out of the 5 days I had off from work for a long Memorial weekend to get all my plants planted, The first two days it rained cats and dogs, got over 5 inches, Day 3 was a windy wind day and ground too soggy to even think about digging in, Depressed so I ordered more plants online. Day 4 was picture perfect and did as much as possible until weed whacking the yard borders and got hit with a rock in the eye....Ouch,Lesson learned wear eye protection next time. Day 5 OMG I want to scream, it's raining again and supposed to all day.

Wow i hope it slacks off raining soon . i know you are going nuts wanting to get in the garden . i sure was during all of the rain and cold weather . i heard parts of new york got snow over the weekend . they are calling for isolated storms here but i hope they miss us we are soggy enough . it was nice here all weekend and for once my husband was home to help me instead of out on the road . however we got side tracked a bit . he was dog tired and had drove all night when he got here saturday morning . so i let him sleep and tried to be quiet . we are baptist so we don't work on sunday . then monday we ended up at a huge flea market and was to exhausted to do much when we got home . at least i bought some nice plants while at the sale . local growers were everywhere trying to sell plants and trees yesterday . i waited until the sale was almost over then got good deals because they didn't want to lug the plants back home . i bought a bugainvillea , some foxglove , a few herbs , and 2 Variegated Weigela . I think the only thing we got done all weekend was my husband weed eated the fence out back and raked up all of the leaves from the Ivy that had blown all over the backyard . i have never in my life seen so much Ivy in one place before . we are in danger of it taking over the back yard . there are Ivy vines as big around as the top of my leg growing up the trees . 95% of the trees in the woods around the yard are covered in it to the point there are no limbs except at the very tip top of the trees . the entire neighborhood has been taken over by it . looks to be 2 kinds of IVY english ivy and then a varigated Ivy as well . i called my son to see if he will help spread my compost/dirt because if it is left for me to do alone it might not get done . i get scared when i am working outside alone since i had a heart attack and had to get 4 stints put in . i try to schedule all of my labor intensive yard work around my husband or my children's schedule . i get frustrated because i am used to being independent and doing everything myself . but in time we will get it done and then i will be able to kick back with a glass of ice tea and rock away in my rocker while watching it all grow .

spring seems to do everything weatherwise at once. Being older it can be tough going in & out. After all the rain & an iris tour, DH was finally able to mow. I hope the ticks stay down.

Do you have moles? Foxes catch them as well, however because of oil glands beneath the skin, they are not eaten.

I only saw one mole once.. I squooshed it myself.. it ran under my landscaping fabric.. and I stomped.. I know it's wrong.. and did feel bad.. but I just thought of all the plant damage it was going to do.. and it was a natural reaction

I swear I saw a vole the other day.. looked too big in my mind to be a chipmunk

figured I would post Karen's cicada photo she sent me today.. was a nice shot .. even though it's creepy Karen

Speaking of Chipmunks, Where are they? Last year we had hundreds of them. I would go out every morning around 5:30am -6am and listen to them running around and chirping. This year I've seen one. We do have fox behind us but can't imagine they are killing all of them.

Have to thank my son for the Cicada pic. Currently have every stage of cicadas in my yard. They seem to be everywhere.
Can't wait til the Cicadas go back to hiding in the ground.

We have chipmunks in the stone wall & in a hill along part of the driveway. I bet that they go in cycles.

Hurray! I haven't seen not one Cicada yet and will not be complaining about it lol . the last time they were out they drove me just about insane they were so loud . i lived in a little house way back in the woods then so i guess i was invading their territory . the only thing i found good about them was they made good fish bait . but there were so many the fish even got sick of them .

Crazy weather! I still have so much planting to do but won't be today...MAYBE I'll plant the rest of the caladiums later cause at least I'll be in the shade
Haven't seen any chippies here either, I have a vole that Wall-e(that's my German Shepherd) is trying to catch

the best way to catch moles is to lay a piece of plywood near where you have seen them . they will surface underneath it then you can either put poison under the plywood for them to eat . or you can do what i did , get a 2x4 raise the plywood up and beat them to death . i know that sounds brutal but i will do whatever is needed to keep them from destroying my garden .

I think that voles have short tales. I don't hear chippie when I go out right now. so hot they stay underground?

So first it's cold, then it rains like a monsoon, then the cicada's show up in mass and now the temps have leveled off into the 70's but the Mosquito's today are fierce. Just getting from my car to the house after work today and planting a few flowers my legs, elbows, eyebrow, chin and in between fingers are covered in itchy bites. I can hear my MOM saying don;t scratch!!!!!!

Does anyone know of a good mosquito repellant yard spray, organic, something that won't hurt my veggies?

Ha ha ha on the don't scratch!!! My Mom too. Rolling on the floor laughing But seriously, had a tick bite me while I shopping pepper plants. I got it @ home, but didn't notice it. Then in the middle of Agway I feel it biting me!!! I pulled open the top of my shorts and there he was latching on for all it was worth. Brian's qucikly excorted me around a hidden corner before I ripped my shorts off. He got it off me before it could bury it's head but it itches like crazy today!!! Who knew they itched too?
