I was going to say that this year wouldn't have been a good year for me to get an accurate height anyway. Good to hear it's a TB Thumbs up
And the past few days I have been battling a gopher who decided to tunnel underneath it. Almost got it today, was standing over it with a pitchfork a foot away as he came popping up and down out of the hole but I am too squeamish and chickened out, called my husband to do it but he missed. Rolling my eyes.

Green Grin! Thumbs up

I got to get that gopher and a few others that are giving me problems. Today I discovered a plant totally sheared down to about an inch, I thought my husband had weed whacked it then I discovered a fresh hole next to it. Apparently one of these little buggers came and cut the whole plant down, dragging it into his hole. A week ago it looked almost like this:

Whahhhh! Crying

Never tried that, Lucy! I know the "poison peanuts" don't work...little buggers carry them out of the burrow, and pile them up, then the birds get into them! I,ve been sticking the hose into the hole, andflooding them out, then giving them the "boot"( but I'm so slow anymore, that my percentage of "gits" is pretty low! Rolling on the floor laughing )...Arlyn

By the way they make really good gopher traps to put on the holes. Next best thing to a good cat. LOL
Politicians are like diapers, they need to be changed often, and for the same reason.

I tried the traps with very little success. The cat thing works well, when we had a cat, there were hardly any "varmits" around. Downside is ,the birds suffered, too!. I suppose that for "true" gophers, the traps might work , byt what we have(and call gophers) are actually 13 lined ground squirrels( look like a chipmunk). They are a little smaller than gophers, and seem to be able to wiggle past the trap, somehow!...Arlyn

Sue thanks for posting regarding the photos!! Very cool! I tip my hat to you. Sorry you're having varmit problems! Thumbs down I'm repeating myself here, so if you've heard this one before skip it Thumbs up
I bring my tender succulents out for the summer and back indoors for the winter - this last autumn I noticed one of my pots felt "light" it had a large aloe in it, and so I lifted it up and looked at the bottom (which for some reason, this particular pot has a larger than normal drainage hole...anyway, it looked like something had pushed the roots up into the pot, so I (carefully) shook the pot, and used a chopstick to dig around trying to see if anything came out...nothing did. A few days later in my apartment I was still moving plants around, needing to help them find the perfect location, and I lifted up that same pot, and something fell out of the bottom - I didn't have my glasses on, and it just looked like dirt so I didn't give it a thought. A couple days later, while I was watching TV I thought I saw something scurry by along the baseboard of the wall. A few days after that a little mouse came running across my living room floor, I (not loudly) screamed and it stopped and turned looked and me and took off, just as scared as I was! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing I told the building manager what had happened, and he said he'd trap the thing - I thought he meant a live trap, but no, that isn't what he meant, and sadly I went along with it, since I was nervous having a new roommate (who wasn't paying rent and who was startling whenever I'd see him! I finally agreed to setting the trap, and sure enough a few days after that I was successful - but its sad to kill something just because it happened to be munching on some aloe roots at the wrong time! Thumbs up Hilarious!

I was camping and jumped into a sleeping bag, got all zipped in only to find I had a mouse in it. My shrieks were heard for miles, I'm sure.

Greg ~ the iris are similar to semps in some ways. After a rhizome blooms it will never bloom again so you count on the new baby rhizomes to bloom the following year. If your clump gets old you could have a bunch of the non blooming rhizomes in the middle that need removed.

Cheers! Smiling

Thanks Patty, I was wondering because mine just keep going, but its partly because I keep moving them around so they're not risking having all old rhizomes!
Your mouse story would freak me out!!! Confused Rolling on the floor laughing Thumbs up
