Just a little problem, something technical I have no clue about, I'm sure. I had two pictures of Twistleaf Yucca, Yucca rupicola, which I added to the database. The trouble was, I later discovered the pics somehow were tilted to one side when posted. In the folder My Pictures, which I uploaded them from, the plants look upright, but after they were posted, they weren't.

Is there any way to fix this?

Linda, I think Dave can fix these for you.

Well, it's also happened when I posted pics on a forum thread. I don't have an iPhone or iPad, just a camera, the pictures go to my computer, so not sure how it's the same thing.

I fixed these two photos.

Nowadays a lot of camera allow you to take photos upside down or sideways and then as soon as you plug it into your computer, it automatically notices what orientation each photo was taken and then automatically fixes each photo so they are pointing the same way.

But some computers (or phones) don't do this update, and the photo is preserved as side-ways. So for these, I have programmed ATP to fix the orientation of a photo when you upload it.

Worse, though, is that some softwares will fix the photo but not update the internal data of the photo that says it was updated. So when it's uploaded to ATP and my system looks at the photo, it thinks it's in need of a rotate even when it's not. And I suspect that's the case here with your photos, Linda.

I'm not sure exactly what the solution to this is but I'm continuing to look for it. In the meantime I can fix any photo that gets uploaded that has this problem.

Linda, on these particular photos, did you copy them off the camera directly? Or are you using a software package on them prior to uploading them to ATP?

They come in to canon software, then to My Pictures. When I edit them (usually, I do), it's with Microsoft Office. It worked fine until the other day

Did you change anything at all prior to the other day when this started happening? A change of software, or a recent update to the software? Any clues at all would be very helpful. I do need to track this down since it's affecting a handful of people.

Do you ever rotate them yourself?

Last question: why use MS Office to edit photos? That's not really a image editor program.

Dave & Linda,

I use the Canon software as well with My Pictures, edit with the same software and upload from the software. Occasionally, not all the time, the ATP upload box will show images in a folder I'm planning to load from all flipped sideways. These are always the original larger file images. Any images that have been resized previously to under 300k remain upright/correctly oriented. No answers for this, I am computer challenged, thought it might help you in figureing out the problem others are having too, I just go back into my Canon photo album and make sure the image is resized before hitting the upload button.

I've been using a photo editing program that came with my Microsoft Office software for a while. It's easy to use and it works well for me. I've just had Canon software for a shorter time and don't know how to use it for editing yet. I think I may have done an edit on those 2 pictures to rotate them...sometimes I want a more vertical picture and turn the camera around, then I have to rotate the picture with software on the computer. The only thing that's been done with my computer lately...DH bought something at a computer store that would make our computers work on wireless (package says wireless-N USB Adapter). Don't know much about these technical things, but apparently it worked with his computer, but not with mine, so he switched mine back to the usual non-wireless connection until he could figure out the problem.
