My first ever passi has surpassed my wildest expectations! I'd have never thought it could do so much in our northern climate... and it was a cool and cloudy summer this year!!! It literally must have hundreds of buds right now, and it's reached the 20' mark! Hurray! Wow!

The cultivar is Aphrodite's Purple Nightie, Woofie. Thumbs up I picked it up at one of our local greenhouses this spring.

I'll be very curious to hear if it comes back after the winter there. Be nice to find one that could overwinter in the ground.

I agree

I'm going to try to keep a cutting going over winter as well, but sufficient indoor light has always been an issue here. Plus, there's the fact that winter is so very long that I tend to forget about my houseplants about halfway through it.

Green Grin! Want to send me a few cuttings? Looks like there's LOTS of plant to spare! Hilarious! It would give me some incentive to do some improvements to my Forsythe pot (it leaks a bit).

That's a definite "maybe", Woofie. Hilarious! All of a sudden things got way more complicated than usual around here, but I expect the roller coaster ride will level out soon.

I'll mail you.

Hi everyone,

New to this site ;-) I signed up way back in May but I have been busy both with work and the garden I completely forgot about this site. Passiflora is one of the (many) plants I am slowly getting addicted to. I have as of this time , 13 passionvines all accumulated within a span of 1 year. I used to have just 2 that were given by friends and I have that for about 3 years before I got into it. Nice to have another garden website I can visit and ask questions and chat about plants I am crazy about ;-) I have been doing some online swaps either by seeds or rooted cuttings with total strangers. Who would have thought that you can find really honest and good people through plants. I am looking forward to having a good garden relatioship with the folks here. Hurray!

Welcome! to ATP, Eileen.

You're brave. I think I'd almost be afraid to grow passies in Florida. Hilarious! My little spring start has grown at least10 feet up to the roofline, then continued for another 15 to 20' up there, 18 feet across in one direction and about 10 in the other, and at least 10' down along the ground...all in just a few short months. I can only imagine how well they'd grow there!

Thanks for the welcome chelle,

I grow all but one passi in a container. The P.incense is the only one I am letting to grow 'wild" for the Gulf Frittilary. It has taken over a certain bush which I didn't mind and I see a shoot everywhere in the yard but it gets mowed every 2 weeks so it didn't get the chance to grow bigger. Some really grow very big even in the container and has climbed up the tree but I do cut i back in the winter and they go to the greenhouse. Which passi do you have?

It's Passiflora (Passiflora Aphrodite's Purple Nightieâ„¢)

Pictures of the plant on this page if you scroll up/back a bit. Smiling It's bigger now of course, but kind of folded over on itself on the roof as the wind caught it about a week ago. Still covered in blooms. Hope the frost takes it's time getting here, because I'm enjoying this plant way too much.

chelle, I hope you will post an update next Spring, and let us know how the plant did over winter. I've heard that the one you have is one of the more hardy ones for colder zones. I've been thinking of getting it for a long time, but wanted to know first, how well it really does over winter.

Will do Natalie. Hopefully one of the two will make it...at least. The one that's in-ground is right next to the house, so it might.

Thanks chelle. There is no zone info in the database for this particular cultivar, but I think I remember seeing it hardy to 5a somewhere. Just can't remember where that was. That was pushing it for me before I moved, since I was in 5a, but if yours does well, I need to buy it!
