Our house was sided when we bought it.It has turned a cream color over the years.I prefer to use a neutral color because it wont clash with garden blooms.

The Sage you mentioned sounds great.

Our house is on a big lot.I live with SIL,DD they are "management" I am "building and grounds"

We have just been repainted this spring, pale blue (tries to turn to grey, with marigold shutters & trim. Changed shutters from wood (quite expensive) to vinal (sp) but they look good.

My house is a freakishly fantastic light blue-green color that changes with the light and the season. I call it 'spring sage'. Darker foundation sortakinda matches my favorite rock; even darker trim --not much of it--brings out the lines of the architect (old house/famous guy).
Maybe it clashes with everything, but we get a lot of compliments on the house color and the gardens. It is a large front yard, on a corner lot in front of God and everybody. I thought briefly about proper and formal landscaping and neutral colors for the house. Then I proceeded to do whatever I wanted, because it makes *me* smile when I come home. First pic is early spring. Here is one in July and September. (right now it really looks blue w/the snow but I don't have a picture)

It is supposed to be light blue, but fades top a sort of grey. Buttercup yellow trim & shutters.

Hi Again,
Thank you all!
Here are a couple of winter pictures when the sun came out a bit today, and where I think it actually looks more blue-green instead of blue. Nobody really knows what color it is.
The house across the street is a sage-green, and there's one further down the street that is lime green but I'm not inclined to put pics of the neighbors' places on here. The sky is kinda blue (there is a UFO in the camera lens, as well). And that is Moe guarding all the junk that I left on the front porch and inserting himself into pictures the way he always does. (no more! pictures of the house; it's really not the best part anyway)

Hi David,
I'm ashamed to say that I don't know, but I'll try to find out.
I do know that he did a few other houses scattered on corner lots in this old neighborhood, circa '30's-40's (they are all bigger, and much more impressive things: two story/flat tops/balconies/white stucco/great curves/hard lines/glass and metal). It was part of the "Art Moderne" or "streamline moderne" thing going on at the time. This particular house had a rough and sordid history with its previous occupants. At some point it got 'sided' and painted white and was then abandoned for some number of years. Bad things happened (roof caved in thru the first floor into basement, etc.) and much discussion occurred about condemnation, but because the famous architect guy designed the house, the city left it to rot in on itself...
The yard was in no better shape--a jungle of siberian elm, thickets of chokecherry and tree-of-heaven (or hell, depending on your perspective), thistles, morning glory, goats head, pigweeds of every variety, and some desert grasses and other desert weeds because this here is a high desert on the side of a rocky mountain. I'm very much still 'working' on all of it.
I did find a few things to salvage (iris, lilacs, and semps--not surprising, and one rose--amazing) I had a really huge (60') spruce tree in the front yard (where I made my first 'shade' garden) then it blew down in a horrific windstorm (and became the frying pan garden). But I digress...

dirtdorphins:
Flat roofs are always a problem. You have done a masterful job restoring.
The yard sounds like it took 10 years to come to heel.
Its always nice to know the history of a house.
That might be an interesting thread while we wait for winter to pass.

Thank you both,
Just starting sixth year on the project that never ends...
I get a lot of folks stopping by to check out the transformations and they tell a lot of stories. Fact or fiction?? who knows. (some of the best from police officers) But they all seem genuinely grateful for a new era on this corner.
Here is a link with pictures of these crazy houses--one of them is not too far from me.

It takes so much care and thought to renovating and keeping the look with better building supplies offered these days.
I owned a 1927 Arts and Crafts bungalo ,it was a job to repair and keep the same fixtures. It wasnt until the late 90's that I could replace a hall light with the right look. When A&C became popular manufacturers began to put great things on the market.
I always hated the 50's storm door that had to replace the great screendoor on the back of the house.

dirtdorpins, you are doing a great thing in putting the house back to itself. I had noticed the siding and cringed a bit. Was rude to say anything, but now that I know YOU didn't do it... Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

DavdiofDeLand- The green shutters, did you make the shutters? They look like wood, are they vinyl? The colors look nice together. I like the sun too, it adds some whimsy and one can't go wrong with that!

dirtdorphins, I LOVE the look, your beds are gorgeous! I really like the round windows, makes the house look unique and adds character. Really like the huge rocks you have, I had some large rocks like that but, had to leave them when I moved, so I don't have many left now. They really make a bed look nice though.

I have to admit, I never considered painting my house to remind me of my favorite desert, although I suppose some folks use gingerbread trim on their homes, I never thought of it like that...
