Field Poppies, the Memorial Flower

Sometimes when we are going full blast ahead and not paying a bit of attention to anything around us, something stunning catches our eyes and an old truth simply slaps us right in the face. It happened to me when I saw the poppies.

I'm so sorry about the loss of your uncle. He really passed on a beautiful legacy to you. What a moving way to give tribute to him!

Angie, thanks. It started out being a tribute and a bit of history about the Field Poppy, I guess I can't write about one without the other.

The mix of tribute to your uncle and the history of the poppy was beautiful. I like what you said about lessons sometimes not being learned until we are older... so true.

Poignant, informative and beautifully written, Sharon.

It's a sad irony of WW I that the churning of the soil by high explosives promoted the germination of the poppy (hardy annual) seeds in the soil.
