I have some birdbaths and some stacked stone walls. Really makes it very much a country effect. My house is fairly old and craftsman style so I want it all to look good together.

My idea for when I started my garden was for the illusion of a cottage out in the country, off by the woods. I get closer to my ideal each year but it has been lots and lots of work.

Now this is funny but what I couldn't see 2 days ago is now showing up. Just a few minutes ago I installed and update on Java but don't know if that has anything to do with it. After I send this gonna' go back up and look at the plan.

Very nice Kelly... I am considering making a new lasagna bed this summer but DH will probably say what he always says and that is that I have too many beds now.
My friends and I went out shopping in kind of junky style antique stores today. You know the kind not filled with breakable just a little bit of everything. I got a short step ladder for $3 and am going to paint it barn red and put it in my red, white and bue garden.

Daffodils are looking pretty this morning around the birdbath.

Stopped today after picking up some supplies at another favorite place of mine. There is a little shop nearby right out in the middle of farm land Indiana and I found a rectangular wire basket. The handles fit together and the wood part on one handle looks like its been here a while. It is all rusty and old looking. Thought it would hold a couple of clay pots with an annual in them.

trellises, tuteurs, birdbaths, birdhouses, etc Tuesday Morning was my one stop spot to pick up these and much much more this year, They had the best things plus pots and iron tables, mosaic stepping stones and mosaic garden seats.

Although we are still vulnerable to early morning frosts (like this morning at 30 degrees) I am cleaning up the leaf litter and putting some of the accessories out in my "bird garden" outside my kitchen window. I found some copper-colored wire and tubing insect shapes with blue beads on a closeout table at the end of a season a few years ago for $2 each. Though they are not real copper and are rusting a bit, they still look OK at a distance.

I have bought commercial enzymatic birdbath cleaner in the past, but it is pretty expensive. Does anyone have a homemade cleaning formula that can be used that will not harm birds? I don't want to use bleach or anything that any residue might cause problems.

Check out the concrete and hypertufa forum for some stepping stones and other garden art ideas.

I got an old wrought iron railing from my BIL who was moving last week. Have to decide what to do with it. It is about 2.5' x 6', could turn it vertically and use as a trellis, or use it horizonally by the shed door and grow smaller things up it.... Kind of having fun debating at this point!

Also got 7 large trellises from Big Lots yesterday. I have a bunch of hyacinth vines, scarlet runner beans and honeysuckle that I'd planted on the neighbor's fence, but they needed something better to climb (fence is 6' privacy fence, with little space between the wood) Can't wait to see all these big vines covering it! (We're not fence people, but we have 5 yards bordering ours, and all but the back one chose to put up fences... yuck! Though many have dogs, so I guess that's better than dogs in my yard!)

That sounds great, Kelly! With that many neighbors, be glad for the fences- there's a lot of potential for eyesores at the back of that many lots. The vines will look great.

True, one of them is perpetually up for sale, and the yard is completely made of weeds. I don't notice it though, because we planted a row of 'little red' hollies on that side before all the fences went up that are not exactly little Smiling

I just found this. I love stuff in the garden.I have a few trellises and not enought sculpture.I think it is possible to over do so I hold myself back. I would like 2 or 3 more bird baths ,the kind that dont intrude visually.
Here's my stuff which many of you have seen on the other site.

JoAnn, I love your tastes in garden ornaments! All very organic and sculptural at the same time, and fit effortlessly into the natural setting.

Good accessory ideas JoAnn. I too struggle with wanting stuff and being afraid I will get too much. Am really considering redoing things here next year if we continue to live here on the farm. This past 4 weeks have been a nightmare for someone who loves a well maintained garden. Everything is dying because of heat and drought.

Enjoys or suffers cold winters
My first statue was a concrete turtle. I have added a plaster winged lion & a very expensive imp broadcasting snails. I bring him inside in the winter in spite of being told he would be ok. Not taking any chances!
