I bought "Granada", but when I pulled it out of the bucket to plant, saw the Weeks tag of "Dick Clark". I already have 2 DCs, so I took it back to the nursery. I don't need another DC!

My first rose bloom! Yay!! Theresa Bugnet. She's extremely cold hardy, down to zone 3, and she's right next to the house, so she is pretty protected, so she doesn't lose hardly any canes to winterkill.

I like that shade of pink with the blue undertones. Cool-feeling color.

I can't wait til the house gets finished. I love the blue.. I really do. Really bad picture of a really bad yard (front porch is a mess 'cuz I'm still waiting on the painter to finish the trim in the front).

Thumb of 2013-06-03/Skiekitty/4cbc70

and took this picture before the sun came up... this is about the average height for all my roses. This is Oranges & Lemons. I just freshly mulched the plants behind it.. in front of O&L is a mum & on either side is a Sunset agastache. To the left left and to the right of Twilight Zone (purple rose) is a Concorde Grape spiderwort, behind are 2 sunshine blue bluebeards & some lilacs. I love the new-growth color of O&L.. so brilliant red!

Got lots of rain last night!! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Nasty thunderstorms, but lots of rain! About 1/4 inch! I love it!

I have 2 miniature roses blooming. I have Rise N Shine blooming, but couldn't get decent pictures of it. EDIT: This is International Herald Tribune. I thought I lost it last year.. apparently not!
Thumb of 2013-06-05/Skiekitty/cdcf87

For some reason, my pineleaf penstemon is starting to bloom.. which is weird because that's usually a July/August bloomer. I have a red & a yellow (I bought 2 reds, but 1 ended up being a yellow Thumbs down ) You can see my poor tulips that got froze-out in the plant, along with a miniature rose (not sure who.. maybe International Herald Tribune) on the left & Bridges Penstemon on the right.

I have a Pinacolada Penstemon also blooming. This one is the Violet version.

Strangely enough, my Sensation Lilac is blooming too.. kinda late as this usually blooms in the beginning of May. Everything's 4-6 weeks late

But my first zone 6 rose has bloomed! Midnight Blue.

Skiekitty, today I wish my roses were as tall as yours. William Baffin is over 10' tall. His thorns pierce my "rose proof" windbreaker. I am going to have to postpone the Playboy photo shoot -not- because I am covered with scratches. I hate to cut back the main canes of the roses, so I pot them up and cut them only if they die back or wilt. I may just tie them together. I am taking things one day, rose, pot box at a time and hurrying to finish. I keep running out of pots, boxes, etc.

Grumpypants may be right - I have too much stuff, too many plants, etc. It could be worse - some people collect empty vodka bottles.

My neighbor is cursing and hollering at his dog again. He is too dumb, lazy and drunk to put the poor animal on a leash and walk it. He is even worse with his daughters. I will not miss my nightmare neighbors and their junkyard dogs!

Bring on the deer. At least they are quiet and non violent. I have my soap and pepper spray ready. I they really get out of hand, I can thin the herd in season. Actually, I don't think I could shoot an animal unless it was attacking me or Winston the pug, but I have friends who hunt.

When I complain about deer, remind me of my nightmare neighbors...

Hi- I am new here as of last night.. You all have some great photos! I am living in the desert, and am getting some roses started. I used to have some growing on the N.Ca. coast, where they were easier to grow. It's really HOT in the summer here, but nice the rest of the year. I have neighbors that grow some nice roses. I love nice big lush plants, but I will be happy with sturdy, in this climate. It's worth it because I just love fresh cut roses, and have for years. Chrysler Imperial.. (love that name!) does well, here, and I'm trying several new roses. The colors seem to wash out from the heat, but they are still pretty. Anyway.. they are doing pretty well in general.. I'll be glad when they get a bit bigger.

PecanBluff - Welcome!! Welcome! Welcome! Welcome! Where in the desert are you? There's lots of different kinds of deserts.. Oh, and pictures are politely requested... Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing You can add information to yourself on your profile (if you look to the right of my picture of 3 chickens, you'll see that I'm in Colorado).
