June should be a good month for our veggie gardens. Spring harvests and lots of growth for the staples of summer like tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, squash, cucumber and beans. Plus lots more. Let's continue our discussion. Come join us.

Zucchini.


Lots of male blossoms have shown up.


And I have baby zucchini that is growing. This is the biggest one.


Even the yellow zucchini plants are putting on lots of growth.


Pea blossoms! First the blossoms starting on the Sugar Lace II peas. Those are in pots. Then lots of blossoms on my Super Sugar Snaps that are planted in ground.

Rita, I envy your pea blossoms. My plants are doing great. Nice and grean, growing... But no blooms yet! I am supposed to have some teeth pulled in 12 says! I am going to be eating pudding when I have beautiful, crunchy edible pod peas ready! I tried two new kinds this year, along with Mammoth Melting Sugar.

I tried leaf lettuce, from seed, in pots again this year. At first, I thought I had low germination from old seed, so I resowed with fresh seed. Even that is not doing well. Maybe I need to go back to putting it in the ground. Much harder for us to pick in the ground, though.

Oh Juli, I hope the dental surgery goes easili and heals quickly. Nothing like not being able to eat! I found really soft bananas and chicken or beef bullion to be good in cases like that. Anyway if you don't have pea blossoms yet then I am sure they will start soon. I know I waited and waited and waited for my peas to bloom.

I know the peas in pots have been a big sucess for me. They go so well in pots. But never tried lettuce in pots. Herbs I think are another great choice for pots. Especially things like chives.

Hey, I see my Swiss Chard that I sowed from seed afew days ago (in a bowl type pot) is comming up already.

Ha! This morning I have blossoms on the shortest peas. I looked them up and they are "Sugar Sprint." They only get 16" if I remember right, so maybe I will plant some more later in the pots the lettuce was supposed to be growing in.

I am sure I will be ok with my teeth, but I never thought about summer crisp garden veggies when I scheduled the appointment!

So here are the little potlets of veggies I have to plant. My three eggplants and my pots of leeks, savoy cabbage and tango lettuce.

I don't think I would start peas now. Too late as the hot weather would probably hit them before they produced. Save your pea seeds for doing a fall crop. Here I sow my peas seeds on July 20-25 for my fall crop but I am a zone warmer. Work back from your fall frost dates.

Oh, Rita, that is what I meant by "later" ... I usually do a fall crop because I love the sugar pod peas.

Oh, ok. I am surprised more people don't do a fall crop of peas. Two crops are better than one!

I plan on doing quite a few things this fall. Brocoli, cauliflower, peas and lots of greens.

I will definitely be planting peas again in the fall

Yes, everyone should grow peas both spring and fall. Plus if you don't you are wasting space. I do know some zones can do peas and then beans after the peas are done but that does not work here. So I just do two sets of peas. Besides I love peas.

I ordered some Katrina garden green peas (shelling peas) to try for fall. It siaz they are a bush type. I can't quite picture that so I will be learning as I grown them. But I have prenty of seed of my other favorites. I have more of the snow peas and I have all sorts of sugar snaps. Sugar Lace II, Super Sugar Snap and Cascadia. So I have plenty of fall choices.

Here is the ATV cart. I kind of did overkill on the photo's but if your husband is going to build one, he needs to see as much as possible, huh? You can tell by the tongue that it is very easy and no weight at all to maneuver around. Also, the back has thumb screws so you can take the back panel off like a gate if I'm doing mulch. It looks small but you wouldn't believe how much it holds.

Busy today. I had to plant all my new stuff! Here it is.


Now I have to drag it all off onto the driveway so it can join all the other veggies already there. I want to re-arrange the veggie pots before I do that so I will wait till tomorrow. It is hot in the sun but not so bad if you stay in the shade. I have been working on the potting in the shade all afternoon.

Mystery melons. Marked down cantalope seedlings with no tag. I know they are cantalopes so they are ok by me. That is a 20 inch pot I put them in.

Tango celery. Ended up I had 4 plants after I seperated them. Yea!

Yard Long Beans. Gew these myself from seeds and just transplanted into the pot.


Savoy cabbages. Again there were 4 seedlings in my little supposedly one plant pot.

My day in the garden involved two snakes One was a baby but I met baby's mother as well

Oh no, I wouldn't want to meet up with any snakes.

I did search thru all the little pots to find the ones that had the multiple seedlings. Otherwise at one plant, I was not about to buy them.

Then if you look at the contraption I have the cabbages in, that is what my spring bulbs from Brent & Beckies are shipped in. I just knew I had to save them because they are great containers. On the bottom I put that stuff they line the wire hanging baskets with. So it still drains but soil can't fall out. And I put cardboard around the sides.

My seeds came from Burpee so I just sowed 4 each seeds of the Baby (good for containers) Okra and the Tivoli winter squash. I intend to put them in two twenty inch pots like the one I have the melons in. Sowed four seeds to make sure that something comes up. But only going to do one plant per container. But I am trying to think up a spot were I coould but some of that okra in ground.

Green beans! After market we stopped at the far to water and discovered enough green beans for dinner along with some steamed broccoli. Let the summer begin!

Oh yumm. Fresh brocoli and beans. Love them both. Your booth looks great there and I figgure thats you and your hubby there.

It must be a lot of work to pick and harvest for each weekend. What happens if you have veggie leftovers? Do you take them home and freeze them? But then probably your customers buy you out.
