@tarev @needrain I think this is something that I will have to tackle in a few years. I'm still a beginner and it looks like this plant needs a little more care. Thanks for your input

When repotting, do not use Miracle Grow peat moss or perlite. Both have additives (plant food) that is harmful to sarracenias. I buy the big blocked peat moss from Home Depot for about $7.00 and Black Gold perlite, mix it 1/1 and repot. I use the sphagnum moss as a soil topper and keep them standing in distilled water. They stay outside year round. They are tough plants and as long as they have water, they can take care of themselves.

Welcome to Texas Gardening forum and thanks for the advice. Do you keep yours in shade?

You do have to read the care for the particular plant. For example, my Nepenthese pitcher plants get bright shade, but my VFT, Saracennias, and sundews get all the sun they want (along with their regular watering or whatever rain fall they get). I have already read that some people do grow their Nepenthese in sun all day long, but they live in an area where the summer temperatures are milder. I don't have enough plants yet to try it here in Texas but soon as I do, I will also see if they can grow better from having more sun.

I know this is an older topic that I happened to stumble upon, but I wanted to mention that Texas does have a Carnivorous plants Facebook group that has a few knowledgeable growers that do quite well growing them in that state. Maybe they can be of help to others looking for info growing these plants in Texas. Here is a link to that site:

@CPKeeper Welcome to Texas Gardening! From your screen name, I'm guessing you are knowledgeable about carnivous plants also. Hope you stick around and help us out with questions that may come up! Thumbs up

CPKeeper, your link doesn't work. I tried to do a search but couldn't find anything on Facebook for carnivorous plants in Texas.

Hi,
I'm new to San Antonio Texas and not sure what to plant here. I'm having a problem with wasps. Thinking about putting in a pool. I read were carnivorous plants would help, are there any recommendations? Love roses Shrug! will they grow here or attract more bees?

Welcome @NewTexas!

I know nothing about gardening in San Antonio, particularly in regards to wasps. (Helpful, eh?) But we have a lot of members from San Antonio and thereabouts and once they see your post, I think they'll be able to help. I'm currently having a brain drain or I'd name names.

Also, I made a list of all of the native plant sales (held by nonprofits) happening this fall. It's here in the Texas Forum and you can scroll to it or (maybe) use the link.
The thread "Texas Native Plant Sales & Festivities, Fall 2019" in Texas Gardening forum

I just glanced at it and there's going to be a sale in S.A. on Sept. 28. You might go to it just to talk to the people who are holding the sale. They're from the San Antonio Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas (NPSOT) and will have a wealth of info about plants that do well in San Antonio.

If you feel like driving to San Marcos, they're having an event on Oct. 19.

Two more events in San Antonio.
You can check out the 2019 Monarch Butterfly and Pollinator Festival, October 12 – 20. (I listed it as October 20.)
There's also a sale on Oct. 26 -27 at the San Antonio Botanical Garden.

If you're up to driving to Austin, you might want to go to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center Fall Native Plant Sale on Oct. 18 -19. (Or you might want to go there at anytime. It's a great resource online and onsite.)

If I knew my geography better, there might be other sales you'd be interested in.

At all of these sales you'll find native plants that will do well for you and will be cheaper and healthier than what you might find in garden centers. And if the sales are at all like the ones in the DFW area, you'll find a lot of people who love to talk plants and help with advice. Also, if they're like the ones up here that I go to, get there early!

BTW, bees are a good thing. If you don't bother them, they won't bother you. 🐝
