I use a ladder and a long pole to place the netting. I keep it pruned shorter now so it's easier to net. I've learned to thin the peaches a bit more now, so they get bigger but have a few less. I've been doing that right now, as it's loaded with little ones. This is a Contender peach tree. It's developed to take the cold winters, and has survived even 5 or 6 mild freezes on the buds and still produced. The peaches are very tasty and hold up well for canning. I would think it needs a longer chill period then it would get down in your area, but you would have a wide selection of varietes to plant down by you. I planted another cold hearty variety last year called Flamin Fury PF-24C. It already has a few peaches on it. I'm only letting it have a couple to see what they taste like. as it's so young.

I decided I am going to get me another Peach tree! The people behind me, their trees are loaded, some are hanging to the ground. I am going to see if I can get a picture. My problem Tom is where will I plant it? I don't want peaches dropping on my Hostas.
I got four St Luke Plum trees back there. There were a gift, she told me it would NOT bear fruit. I had them about six years now and they are dropping plums, not a lot to worry about. but something tell me to start growing Poplar or that fast growing Maple right next to them . I need to look that plum tree up to see what it really does.

My experience, all be it very limited, is that the peaches hang on quite well until picked. Even in some pretty windy weather. The few that might drop would be the ones that are not good, or when they get over ripe. I pick them just as they are turning soft, and haven't had many fall. You might think about getting one on dwarf root stock, or semi dwarf if you have some space limitations or don't want tons of fruit. I have gotten really good trees from Grampa's Orchard. Very nice quality trees and decent prices too.

Finally finished getting the peaches thinned. They sure had a bunch. I hope they keep coming along like they have been. I can just taste that first juicy one already!!!!

In the Texas Hill Country, almost all of the peach crop got wiped out a late cold spell this year. Too bad, almost every year either drought or cold or something else ruins the peaches.

I live west of San Antonio. That's just what I've been hearing about the peach crop in the area. I thought about going to a pick-your-own place in the hills for peaches this year , but they all said they only have a small number. so no pick-your-own for peaches. It must be much better where you live!

Pick your own sounds great! Do you need a ladder? I have vertigo. lol
I live in a old neighborhood in Dallas and they have big yards with peaches and figs and they also have big dogs! They let the dogs out during the day while they go to work ... and they run down the cats and kill them Angry ... just awful ...until I called the city. I mean my gawd, who wants to experience Glare that.,
Anyway Georgia sells peaches for 49.00 a case. They are still expensive in the stores, but I don't have the money..
I will be glad when the nectarines go down too. Sticking tongue out
San Antonio is pretty, I went there for the TNLA convention.

Sylvia, what brand of peaches did you get? Grandpa's ships some good quality tries, at least he did to me. Good luck.
