If anyone wants lupine seed, I have quite a bit harvested. Stan mowed the 'field' and the plants are popping back up, gathering energy for next year.

I'd be happy to send some along for postage, or if you have some interesting seeds to trade, I'm always open to that.

As much as I'd love to have Lupines, I guess I'll content myself with pics of your beauties. Out of hundreds of seed I sowed last year, only 2 plants came back this spring. Then the summer heat came early and they just melted away Sad I think I'm just too far south for them to be happy.

Kathleen - I would love some of your lupine seeds. I have not tried growing them from seed, but do want to try. It gets hot here too, but I am hoping they are up and blooming before the summer heat comes.

I have some Philippine lily seeds, some white echinacea seeds, and some Moluccella seeds if you want any of those. And of course, lots of gallardia seeds.

I just planted some annual lupine seed. I bought it from American Meadows last year but it got too late to do anything last year.

Did you direct sow them? I tried some of those a couple of years ago, in hopes that I'd finally found a Lupine that would do something here...I got one bloom spike, then it croaked Sad

Yes, I did direct sow them but it's only been afew days. Last year I tried sowing some in planters right after I received the seeds and they came up well but since it was already hot by then never did anything more. I figgured they have to sown early spring to grow while the weather is still cool. We will see if I am right.

I believe that is exactly right, getting started before it gets hot does seem to be key with Lupines in general. Experienced growers who have sent me seed suggested that I direct sow them in late winter/early spring. I don't think they like to be transplanted either, which is the case with a lot of legumes.

I sowed some Lupine seeds a few weeks ago but it sounds like it won't do well in warm weather. It's been awfully warm here lately. How long from germination to flowering?

Nicole, I doubt very much that you can grow Lupines in hot Atlanta. They just don't take to the heat.
