Thanks for your research, Evan. I'm so used to plants doing poorly for me that I get nervous when they are so robust!

Our Mollis is DD's.It has been here 6 years,as far as I know it has always bloomed. It gets sun nearly all day.
DD doesnt deadhead it so I dont know how many shoots there are or are seedlings, and besides I have gardens of my own to deal with.

This is DD's garden last July 4.I checked past years but dont really pix her gardens so its the earliest image I have.

Mine is in part shade and I have never deadheaded, although I did snip a bloom stalk one year to try to harvest seeds for swapping, and
I don't have any seedlings. I enjoy the texture and pattern of the huge leaves, too. Just a great plant, IMO. I can't say that about oenethera,
evening primrose, though. I planted some pink evening primrose several years and have been pulling it out ever since. DON'T PLANT IT!

So funny how different plants behave geographically. I can't get acanthus to bloom and it struggles for me, but my evening primrose is gorgeous and well behaved.

Deb:

You are lucky! It is a lovely plant, which is why I bought and planted it, but it has become a thug in my garden. Neighbors have it and it doesn't seem to misbehave. I must not be a
very good parent!

Commenting again on A. mollis, keep in mind that I have A. spinosus and that may be the difference in the behavior that we are discussing.
