I killed a semp that I know was the Semp of yesterdays.

I always called this a houseleek. I know why they used it on house roofs. It would just get bigger and bigger. I had it for years about 10 years and I had never seen a flower. When one finally flowered I did not know what it was doing.

This semp would just get bigger and bigger make babies and more babies and more babies.

Maybe it was because I was growing them in shade it is possible why it did not flower. But it even made babies that were strange colors.

I know it was the same semp because it was the only one I had. Unless a bird planted a seed. When the babies were too tight I would pull them off and push them into a brick wall along the driveway. This is what this plant did.

Aren't they so amazing. We never quite know what to expect from them.
I have also had some of my common hen and chicks produce the occasional surprise. Like yours, it was almost 8 years before a couple of the rosettes bloomed.
I still have some in the front yard.

Lynn that is beautiful especially that white one. It is why I say names mean nothing to me. Every plant has value.

That is some Sedum spathulifolium growing in with the semps. It is a great sedum.

Cinta, just a few short months ago I considered myself the NOID semp king! And then it was coming time for trading and I realized how challenging that would be without a name, since semps can look different in different environments. So I began writing my labels, and now I'm a regular "named" variety guy! (still love my NOIDs though!)

How did you manage to kill them Cinta? Have you checked closely to make sure that there arn't still a few out there hiding? These common ones are the most resiliant of all

Kate I thought you could not kill them either. I moved all my semps from the old house. I even went back to see if any was still hiding. I think if there were any left the landscaper took them out.

The realtor told me to downsize the gardens so I pretty much emptied most of the gardens and made them cookie cutter a few bushes and grass.

I have a cactus succulent garden so nothing is hiding. They died.

Live is continually changing. The plus side is it opens new doors for us.

Yes Lynn gardening is about new beginnings, changes and it has made me stop saying "NEVER", "THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE" "ABSOLUTELY" These are words and phrases that do not go with gardening.

This was half of my Succulent garden at my old house.

I remember as a child my grandmother telling me to not use those words.
I bet it was difficult to leave it.
