Hellenig, thank you so much for adding such lovely photos of S. 'Gollum' to the database. I would love to see more photos from different times of the year if you can. How large are the rosettes?

Gollum is a medium size semp: the largest rosettes are 7 to 8 cm large (i.e. 2.7 to 3.1 inches if I converted right). I'll try to make more photos in the months to come in order to show the evolution of the color range.

Thank you hellen. It will be interesting to see the changes.
How do you grow yours? In containers, raised beds, or?
And what type of soil do you use?

I grow them all on my terrace in terracotta/metal flowerpots, using a mix of horticultural compost and sand above a layer of small peebles or expanded clay grains to drain. I also lay a thin layer of lava grains at the surface of the soil to prevent contact between the rosettes and the soil.

It obviously works very well, your semps are beautiful and healthy looking. Which one is that in your avatar?

I lost a large amount of rosettes of Silberkarneol and Turmalin this winter, though. Fortunately, the surviving ones produced many new plants. I'll be more vigilant next winter for both of them. The other varieties didn't suffer at all from the cold (-20°C) and wet winter we had.
My avatar is Sempervivum calcareum Limelight, one of my favorites.
I'd like to create a new entry for it (and a couple of others too), would you please correct it? (guess you check suggestions anyway, but being a novice I would appreciate you bringing any error to my attention)

Here is the entry for 'Limelight', which is also a favorite for me.

I don't see that you have entered any new varieties yet Hellen. Did you need help with them?

Happy to hear that you were able to save some of each to carry on the variety.

I have had trouble with several of mine with rot over our very long wet and cold winter/springs. I finally moved Lilac Time into a much taller raised bed and put a lot of chicken grit under the leaves and all around the area. This is the first year I have had no rot in Lilac Time. I was so happy.

No, I haven't created new entries yet. I'll make an attempt it this week-end. If necessary, I'll send you an SOS - if you don't mind of course?

Thank you for pointing at the existing Limelight entry Smiling I had made a query in the DB on "calcareum limelight", but it didn't return any results...

I also have two semps with no ID (an arachnoideum and a globiferum). How do you proceed with them? Does one just add a picture under the general entry?

I fixed Limelight, so that it will come up if you search for it as calcareum Limelight. Thumbs up

Yes, under the general entry would be a great place to add all of your NOID semp photos. Sempervivum

Any time you need help, just call out. Thumbs up
