It appears to be New England Aster (Symphyotrichum novae-angliae) There are a couple of other things it could be, though, so until it blooms it is difficult to be 100% certain of that.

New England Aster (Symphyotrichum novae-angliae)

It's commonly grown in gardens and there are many cultivars available.

Here is the bloom, very pretty but kind of ratty and naked on the stems. Will definitely need to move to the back of a bed. Thanks for your help with the ID!

New England Aster it is. I tip my hat to you.

They are easy to move, probably best to do it right after a killing frost this fall or right after they start growing next spring.
