Here it is looking back from the other side you can see my empty space just waiting to be formalized.
To the left you can just see the edge of the Veggie Garden.
We have been making some plans for the formal garden and last fall we planted a row of small varigated Box Woods right down the edge of the Veggie Garden. Eventually they will make a low wall between the Secret Garden and the Veggie Garden. There will be some type of trellis built for on the side of the house for a Climbing Hydrangea and two new arbors are going to be built this spring one will replace the old gate into the dog yard and planted with Clematis and Roses. The other arbor will be part of the low box wood wall providing entrance between the Veggie Garden and the Secret Garden. That will be planted with some type of vining vegetables not sure quite what. Not entirely sure what else will go into this area but some type of water feature maybe just a fountain. It is Ric's project and although I am giving suggestions it is really his baby.

Holly - Your yew secret entrance is amazing! How long did it take for them to get that tall? That is such a neat idea! I really like how it looks!

I'm not really sure how long it took. We planted rooted cuttings that were given to us by a co worker around 27 years ago. But we have maintained it at this height for so long now that I'm not really sure how long it has been this big. Ric seems to think that it may have been about 15 years ago that the arch was achieved but really that is a vague guess.

I am amazed that the plants are still alive after 27 years! Wow! Sounds like a good bush/tree to grow! I'm going to go do a search on it now and learn more. Not sure if it would grow well in the heat here though ...

Clipped Yews are considered old fashion foundation plantings. In our area all the old houses had them and mostly they were pretty boring. Most have been ripped out over the years and replaced with more interesting and modern plantings. I just like this one because we did something different with it. I think it will work very well with the more formal plantings we are going to do in the Secret Garden. But then I like hedges and I like having edges to my beds. Something that says this stops here and that starts there.
Becky, I'm not too off topic are I? Not quite sure this is the type of Theme you wanted in this thread.

Inside, Don't even want to think where this could take you as a theme. LOL I saw a really cute birdbath made out of a pedestal sink but I won't go any father even thinking about other bathroom fixtures. LOL

For those of you that have not heard the bathtub story. It originally came from my Uncles summer place when I was a child it sat outside with a hand pump. When he got the place a bit more civilized it came to my house were we used it as a water trough for our horses. Then on to the life of a party girl, yes she could hold 3 beer kegs. I was doing a clean up and took down the old pasture fence and started cleaning up the area where the tub was still sitting. I decided to get rid of the tub as I just had no use for it. So I had Ric drag it out front for trash pick up. My son Josh came to visit and saw it sitting out there and said Mom you can't get rid of that. So he moved it back into the yard. A few days later I came up with the idea of using it as a pond. It took awhile to decide where I was going to put it. Originally I wanted to put it out front next to the arbor with the Trumpet Vine that is how I picked the color. But I soon realized that the Norway Spruce would give it too much shade. I have two other small ponds in the back yard so I didn't want it there and I really didn't want it sitting in the middle of front yard. Somehow I decided to put it here and it works really good. We like to sit out front and watch the hummers coming and going at the trumpet vine and the tub is easily seen and heard from the front porch. Plus we walk past it all the time on the way down to the Veggie garden or the barn. I was very pleased with it.
My son Jamie plumbed it for me there is a circulating pump in the tub and it circulates the water through the copper piping and out the tub spigot, so it looks like the tub is running. The electric to the pump runs through the overflow drain and down the larger copper pipe so you don't see any of the plumping but the decorative copper piping.

Thanks, Pauletta! Maybe you'll get some ideas to try yourself. A garden room can be any size including an apartment balcony. Smiling

yup mini hostas count! just put a little table n chairs in there with them, put a little fence around it. and you have a garden room! LOL! I know what you mean about health stuff, I didnt get to do anything in my garden last year, well except planting the mini gardens in a pot LOL! I am hoping that when things dry out next month I'll have the stamina and time to get some things done in my real garden!

An idea for a really small garden room I saw once... A large terrarium with rattan table and chairs in the middle, plants in back of the table and chairs and on both sides. I forget what was on the table... I actually used it as inspiration for a real room.

I am sorry! I saw this in the late 70's... Oh I just remembered where I saw it. It is in a garden book I have. Maybe I can take a picture of the picture. I will not be able to do it till next week though. My camera is packed up right now and I wont be able to get to it or the book until next week. Lets just hope I still have the book and the page is still there. I remember that book fell apart. Sticking tongue out Wait... I just found it. Let me try to scan it.

Do enlarge the picture to see it a little better and also the view from the top is on there... It does turn grainy because I had to enlarge it . I am trying it again from the original.
