I didn't see a recent thread for Dragonflies, Damselflies or Mayflies so I hope it's okay for me to start a new one for the month of June.

I'm not sure which one this is but possibly the Ornate Pennant Dragonfly (?):

Thank you, Lin and you're welcome.

I like watching the dragonflies down at the pond. This one is an easier ID, probably Halloween Pennant (Celithemis eponina).

Oh, now that's a pretty one, I love the wing pattern! I'm really taking a liking to Dragonflies lately! I was outside a few minutes ago and managed to get a picture of this one. Not sure which it is, maybe a Great Blue Skimmer?

Wow! Christine those are awesome photo's! I find it hard sometimes to get good shots of Dragonflies ... seems like they flit around so fast and rarely land.

Hi Stone, pretty colors, kinda coppery!! I think it's a Halloween Pennant (Celithemis eponina).

Hmmm...
The concept of naming the dragonflies is new to me... Thanks.

http://bugguide.net/node/view/... says that it's supposed to live in Florida... So... Is it vacationing in Macon Georgia?

nm... Range: Eastern North America

stone: Great shot! Thumbs up

I've just begun taking photo's of dragonflies in my yard and looking up identifications. I have a very difficult time trying to compare photo's, so it's great when someone on here recognizes them and gives the names.

Yep, the Halloween Pendant's range is Eastern N.A. so for sure it would be found in Macon, Ga. I found this when googling: http://www.mamomi.net/Home.htm...

I guess it is vacationing Rolling on the floor laughing I looked at your link and it says that they can be found in their range (which is Eastern North America) during the summer. I see them here in Texas (At my pond) in the summer too.

Janet over at BugLife on Cubits is the person who encouraged me to learn more about dragonflies and bugs in general. In the beginning, I recall telling her that she was shaming me into learning their name, now it's fun. But, sometimes I still enjoy just watching them and taking pictures.

If you've never been, here's the link: http://cubits.org/buglife/ Janet is very good at identifying bugs if you ever happen to want to know what kind of bug is lurking around you home or garden or pond.

Thumbs up

Re: Janet/JRsbugs ... she is wonderful! She's a member here at ATP too and is so great at helping folks identify plants of all kinds. I wish some of her mental acuity would wear off on me! Smiling

I belong to cubits.org *Blush* but never seem to find time to pop in over there anymore ... all of my on-line time is usually here at ATP. I must make it a point to visit cubits once in awhile.

Nice ones, Jay!
Another pretty coppery one! I don't know its name.

but, I think the green one (on the hibiscus plant) is called an Eastern Pondhawk.
