Here are the lovely leaves of Flower By The Sea-sourced Salvia hians. It's getting huge, can flowers be far behind?

A flower stem is forming! I am sure there is a more correct term for the structure.

I have not had a Salvia make an inflorescence quite like the one being made by my S. hians plant. Just look at all the lateral flower stems being formed.

I like the plump lavender flowers, little purple gems.

Sadly our bee population is almost nonexistent. I haven't seen many worker bees around lately. I plan to plant some Buckwheat which I hear tell is a huge nectar plant for the insects. I'll be planting more of the Buckwheat seeds to use as a green manure for feeding the soil life in my containers later in the summer.
