Hi guys,

I won a plant from Bigstump last year on the LA, and got Thin Man as a bonus. It bloomed for the first time today and I'm not sure I have the right ID for it. It's purple and looks like it has an applique throat. The scape is about 40 inches high and the flower is probably 9 or 10 inches if straightened. -- I really like it, but wanted to get some opinions on what others thought it might be. -Thanks in advance! :)

All the pics I've seen of it in the database are red, but I wasn't sure if it could go a little purple or not. Seems like most of the dls in the yard are on the purple side.

Ok guys, Smiling I wasn't sure since it was the ffe (first flower ever) in my yard if it would straighten out or not. Any ideas on what it could be?

I don't think it is even a "more purple" Thin Man as it doesn't have the prominent midrib that "Thin Man" has. But.... I think the daylily you have is absolutely stunning!!!! I recently received Thin Man, too - if the vendor had offered the daylily you have, I most certainly would have ordered it Big Grin .

I hope someone can id it.

OldGardener, It surprised me when I saw the bloom, but it was in a good way. I've been wanting to add some appliques, and this one just came out of nowhere. I hope Bigstump didn't get her orders mixed up and I didn't get a plant someone else had bought. I think I might remember a purple applique spider or ufo being offered on the auction a few months ago, but my memory isn't good enough to be sure.

Could it be "Applique"?

The colors look right on Applique. Mine's taller than 30 inches... but last year I measured Chicago Apache at 36 inches and it's not suppose to be near that tall so height probably varies. - I'll have to see next time she lists if that's one she has, but it looks like it could be. - I was hoping to get some ideas on ID, but I wasn't expecting it to be this fast! Hurray! I tip my hat to you. Think we might have figured this one out. Smiling

I know several cultivars bloom much taller than registered in my garden also so I tend to take the registered height as an approximate guideline. Please let us know if the id is ever confirmed as this is one daylily that I would definitely like to order.

I'll try to do that if I can find out more, but it really looks right to me. The flower size and color matches, the second petals can be a lighter color on Applique, and that huge yellow throat looks right. --There should be another bloom in a day or two and I'll post it on this thread and maybe it will give a better idea of how true the first pic is. --I don't think I'd feel right posting a pic of it as Applique, but I think it probably is. I'm curious to see if Bigstump lists it next time though.

Thanks Debra. Smiling And that's a gorgeous photo Floota. I've rewritten Thin Man to Applique in my records. -I know if you like it that's what counts, but I just really like knowing the names.

Floota, did you ever highlight Applique on your blog? It seems soooo familiar to me although I am certain that I have never actually seen it. I do, however, read your blog.

Sorry for the bad pic, but I said I'd put up the next bloom... which looks a lot like the first. I was hoping it would have a little more color in the second petals, but maybe the next one will. ;) Thumb of 2013-06-23/cats1/092204
