Sheryl,
Did they have a name tag? The flowers look similar but the pads look much larger. Could be due to the warmer climate. My brother in South Carolina has a similar cactus plant. Looks just like mine and even has the same yellow flowers but his pads are over a foot long. Some 16 to 18 inches and can grow to 4 feet tall. I tried to grow his plant up here in Pennsylvania but never made it thru a winter. We are in zone 6. He's in zone 8.

Stush wait until the ones I sent you grow up those pads are huge. The yellow are smaller but the red and peach the pads are really big even in our climate. If I get a moment this evening I will take a pick with a measure stick.

Little crazy right now. I am holiday cooking and I have to pack suitcase, had a death in the family and I am flying out this weekend.

Ugh, so sorry to hear that, Cinta. My sympathies.

Stush, I would have to look for ID - I will try to remember it next week when I go in. Like you, I'm betting the heat and the water it can get are the reason for the size. Our growing season is just so much longer, in this case.
In the end, only kindness matters.

Science is not the answer, it is the question.

Cinta, My sympathies also. I have just lost a very good friend and know the empty feelings.

Thank you Stush and sheryl. It is my BIL and my sister is going to need a lot of assistance. We just lost our mother 2 years ago and we are still grieving. I know this is going to be a touchy time.
