On the label it said Sempervivum arachnoldeum Xandra Hens and Chicks - Red Cobweb

Thanks, funny it does not look like Sandi's picture. Perhaps it did or will as it ages.

Time of year and other growing conditions can make a big difference in how they look. I noticed Sandi's photo was taken in August, which would cause the leaves to close inward and develop more of the webbing. Lovey dubby

Yes, good idea. Most of the webbed ones get heavier webbing in hot/dry conditions.

I'm a little bit confused....

Red Cobweb isn't a name of a cultivar....it's only a discription of a red cobweb sempervivum;

who might be the breeder and who distribute semps with a name like that?!? but a lot of nurseries distribute No-Name-Semps and write a discription on the label; Whistling

so nobody can say if all that "red cobweb" plants are the same......

This is what the tag looks like. It is from Timberline Nurseries, in Arvada Colo. And is a very reputable dealer, don't know who the breeder is however.

To of my Arach mounding types are in trouble, Don't quite know what do to about it. Last year I had at least two others just melt away like this.

Persephony seems to be holding it's own, although it does not have webbing right now.

there are a lot of serious nurseries with a lot of wrong plants.....

if you look at our database (I have no right to show the pictures here) you can see how the "real" Xandra has to look like:

http://www.sempervivum-liste.d...

we have learned that there is no nursery without mistakes at the labels....

to rescue your poor plants you have to pull out the healthy ones, remove all try leaves and put them into fresh substrate; so they can bulid fresh roots and grow; it seems they even have no real good contact to the ground;

not every arachnoideum-cultivar has much web; even if the "sex-partner" is for exampel a tectorum ;-)

but Xandra has a lot of web!!

Persephony I don't know - never heard before; I can't say if it has to have web;

I can see why you say this is not the same, but this is what it looked like when I got it. Lightly webbed then

And here it is with a bit more webbing. Marilyn, looking at the tag for your Xandra, it not giving a name of S. 'Red Cobweb', but just a description of the leaves being red at some time during the year. Just like one of the photos in Peter's link above.

Marilyn's growing conditions are quite unique from many of our growing conditions. She is at a very high altitude with extremes in weather year round, with very intense sun during the winter.

Chris's conditions a very different from Marilyn's. The two photos are just 2 weeks difference in time.

If happy and healthy this is what it can look like in Marilyns growing area of Denver, CO.
This is Sandi's photo.

In my area it looks more like yours Peter, I think our weather conditions are very similar.
