Another idea, if I may...

If one of the purposes of giving acorns is to highlight the better posts, then the exclusion of anonymously given acorns on the home page skews the results, because they are never acknowledged with the present system. I can't imagine any anonymous acorn giver that would not want their acorns counted (while still remaining anonymous), as it enhances their intended objective, as well as the "good vibes" recognition to the recipient. Including anonymous acorns in an "All tallied" count would (at least partly) remedy this.

Hopefully, Dave, this would be an easier task to code?

Privately given acorns are not tied to a post or contribution, so can't be included.

I am glad they are not. If I want everyone to know acorns are given, use the new acorn feature. But if I don't then do it the old way of sending acorns. All bases covered.

I was wondering if there is a way to find out who sent me acorns. I would like to thank them and see what they thought was worthy of a gift of an acorn .

When the feature was first started it said who was the generous donor; then it was decided to do away with the names.

I'm pretty sure we get a systems message for each, but another way you can find out is to go to the post in question and click on the number in parenthesis directly after the little acorn icon.

I am just discovering this post, although I did notice the acorn tipping. I was just amazed at how many are being given as I have so very few to share. I know I probably need to post more pictures in the database so I can accumulate but I need those to enter all the great contests!

Don't forget, Arlene, that you can add data details as well as photos to earn acorns! And data details (you know, growing information!) are just as important as pretty photos.

It looks like we get a system message when we get an Acorn tip, but not when we Give an acorn tip.

No, system messages are only given when something else happens to you, not the other way around. They are notifications of news that you didn't know about. If you give someone a tip then you knew you did that.
