You guys are having Denver weather.
Having an extended warm period and then a hard freeze is normal for the Denver area, which is why we almost never get plums. We often get temps into the 60s and 70s for quite a while (I think it's been two weeks now) and then it'll drop as low as 18. But we pretty much always get bush cherries, pie cherries and apples anyway. The maples are blooming now and the inevitable freeze will prevent the keys from forming, which is ok by me. Bulbs almost never care and often have snow on the flowers. Roses are good at sending out new stuff and even the once bloomers still bloom after having all their new growth frozen off. I quit growing lilacs because I never got a bloom since it always froze off. This is a big reason why I focused on roses and planted 100's of OGRs. A big worry is that we'll get heavy snow once the trees leaf out, which breaks them.

Around here the bees are out. They will go back in again when it gets cold.

One thing I never do is remove mulch protecting plants early. It helps keep them cooler when the temperatures are warm and warmer once then temperatures get cold again. Many many plants are still covered in a thick layer of leaves and will stay that way until May.

I visited Tucson last year after their unusual, horrible freeze which I thought killed many things. I was surprised to see much that I thought dead had recovered.

In Denver it is said we get four seasons - in any order and at any time. Smiling Very different from Michigan where I grew up and had four proper seasons.

Thanks all. I'm loving every one and when I take pictures of all that I have and put each of them in it's own folder, I realize how generous Lynn was. Can never thank you enough. It's amazing the changes I've seen over the winter. wonder how they would look now if Winter had been really cold.
Hugs to all!

We have relatively mild winters here, and they go through vivid color changes. Just a little earlier in the year than the colder zones. : )

I'm going to lock this thread, it has become quite long and difficult to find things of interest that have been posted. Let's start using this thread that goldfinch4 started for us. Thumbs up
