No one around here seems to lift theirs, but they will not take a freeze and hate being cold and wet. I recommend lifting them, unless you don't care if you lose them every so often.
Also depends on your microclimate, of course.
Mmm - there's a gal in the city near me (Cookeville) who leaves hers in the ground... wonder if I could pull it off. We're 6b, bordering on 7. What zone are you in, Red?
On the bananas ('nanners, as we call 'em) I'd like to try Musa 'basjoo' again. I managed to kill the plugs I bought a couple years ago, and I can't blame the cold. It was the middle of summer when they croaked
Feb 21 I saw my first Crocus in the yard, a few yellow ones and a purple (photos still in camera). They surprised me, because the weather has been so cold and miserable. I can deal with the cold weather if at least the sun comes out!
I have one measly white crocus blooming, but lots of crocus foliage popping up all over. ..the promise of blooms to come. My daphne is loaded with buds. That's going to smell SO good when it blooms. It's right by the driveway so we can enjoy it often.
Nanniepb, I grow musa basjoo, the hardy banana. I leave them in the ground year round and they increase quite rapidly. I have never gotten a bloom because our growing season isn't long enough.

Red, where did you get your daphne from? I ordered my first this year from Bluestone, but I've been seeing it at Edelweiss, too, and they have Hebes there that I want badly.
I got mine at Pike Nurseries in GA, and brought it up here when I moved. Daphnes are notorious for being picky about both their growing conditions and being transplanted, so I picked a good spot and haven't touched it since. All my other plants ought to just be on wheels for as often as I move them around.
