Have a bumper crop of cherries. Made two pies, and will freeze some. Might try drying some again, Last time I let them dry too long, and they got like rocks.

I tried to make cherry Jam a few years ago, but it ended up really runny, so I used it as topping for ice cream, really great with a little chocolate syrup too. Mybe I'll have to try that again this year.

Oohh, that sounds yummy! Mine always crystalized so had to warm in microwave, then it got runny. But I still love it.

When I was a kid I used to spend summers up north with my grandparents (Traverse City area) picking cherries. We got $.50 a lug. Long time ago!

They've been yummy in the stores. I am so jealous you have a tree! We grew up with a cherry tree.

Actually I have three cherry trees. These two tart cherries, and I have a Stella, which is a sweet dark cherry, much like the Bing. It's cherries were ripe about two weeks before the tart cherries, and I didn't get a picture of them. I don't always get a harvest on the Stella, as it blooms early and sometimes catches a frost which greatly reduces it's productivity. I would think you could grow the sweet cherries in your zone. Not sure about the tart cherries. I don't know how long a chill period they need.

I envy you those cherry trees.
I have planted two of Carmine Jewel which is a new cold hardy variety.
They are not producing fruit yet, although the one had lots of blossoms.

Have you ever tried growing the bush cherries? I understand they are really cold hardy, I think the name of one at least is called Nanking, or something close to that.

My sweet cherry (Sam) didn't do well this year, there were relatively few bees when it bloomed and the birds got what few cherries actually ripened. My pie cherry (Montmorency) on the other hand is loaded, and the birds are less fond of those do we'll have pie. So messy to pick those, the juice always ends up running down to my elbows.

A morning dove raised two babies in my North Star Cherry tree. These have left the nest, and she's now sitting on some new eggs. It's fun to watch them grow, they sure do grow fast though.

Just had a dish of Ice Cream with some fresh cherries, and some chocolate syrup! OMG was that ever good. Those tart cherries, coupled with the sweet ice cream and chocolate were great. Going to have to have a repeat of that later. nodding
