I didn't notice a thread dedicated to Oriental-Asiatics yet. Is anyone flowering any OA varieties? Could you share pics here if you are?

I just planted two varieties. I'm kind of excited about the whole group. While I saw Chengdu in the flesh last year, it was nice but not really what I'm looking for. These two I planted I hope will be closer to the mark.

The absolutely enormous bulb of Chiaten amazes me - it's larger than my hand!:

While Nanjing is a small thing that obviously splits into new noses readily at a small size:

There are 6 noses across three bulbs there ^

Does anyone know of the different backgrounds involved in OA breeding?

What a dastardly plan to win a section! Rolling on the floor laughing

VDQB has five varieties listed this year: Cocopa, Nanjing, Chiaten, Chengdu and Kaveri. Will post pics of Chiaten (pink) and Nanjing (yellow) when they flower.

edit: I forgot about Sunny Crown! Received that (or something purported to be that) this winter from another supplier... one famous here for getting the names wrong. Here's hoping!

I pollenated Chengdu with Patricia's Pride pollen and got a really fat seed pod but it appears to be all chaff. I'll be planting it soon just to see if anything miraculous happens.

Gorgeous lily and thanks for sharing your hybridising adventures. I'm really hoping Chiaten will breed - but no flowers this year from the great fat bulb that started this thread. A very unusual freeze in spring blinded it. I'll dig up some OA photos from this season to update....
