This is growing in my flower bed. It came with the house, and I don't have any idea of what it could be. I'm assuming that it is probably a bulb. Any suggestions?

The foliage is close to 1 1/2 feet tall, and the bud is about 1 1/2 inches long. It may be impossible to ID without being in bloom. I've thought it was a weed until this morning, when I noticed the bud on it. You'll need to click on the photos to see the entire plant, especially in the first photo. Thanks for any help!

Thanks! I was trying to get some information on another Kniphofia in my yard, and never realized that this one is very similar! It's very small though, and the other one is huge, which is probably why I didn't think about it being the same plant.

Thanks so much for the ID!

So far, it looks similar. I'll have to wait to see if it opens up more over the next few days. I'm not sure that it is blooming yet, but it could be and I just don't know it. It's very cute, whatever it is! It's growing in the opposite conditions that the above site stated it should be in, but that doesn't surprise me.

I would certainly wait to see what it does. Before I enlarged the pic, I thought Oh, Polianthes tuberosa....Tuberose. So, pictures can be deceiving. Whistling

I've never heard of that one Moon! I'll have to look it up! It really is surprising how different some of these plants look when enlarged. I'm usually way off on what it is until I click on it! And half the time, I don't have a clue once I've enlarged the picture! Hilarious!

I just looked up Polianthes tuberosa, and I've got to try it! It's not really a good one for my zone, but I see that it can survive with extra mulch. Looks really nice!

Here is a link with a pic of Tuberose blooms....It was the touch of color at the top that caught my eye until I enlarged the pic. http://acostatropicalgarden.bl...

As for getting fooled....well, my little saying under my name is "things are seldom as they seem....the rest of that quote is from Alice through the Looking glass....."skim milk oft masquerades as cream" And when it comes to IDs...Things are seldom what they seem.....especially after you enlarge the picture Whistling

I can see where you would think it's the same flower! It really looks similar! I recognized that quote under your name.

Mine has sort of flattened out today. It was pretty tight this morning, but the bottom is fanning out more. I can't wait to see what the bloom looks like, if this isn't it. I suspect that it hasn't really opened up yet.

Fortunately it won't be long before you have a bloom for positive ID.
