I agree with Kate!

You gave me an idea, Lisa! I tip my hat to you.

We use PVC pipe as a frame with shade cloth over the frame. That did the trick for the 'not yet established' semps.

Lynn, regarding the photo: is this sort of your "acclimation bed"? ...one that you put semps in not ready for putting in your permanent semp beds? I see that the labels are not your permanent ones so everything in that bed is in transition?

Bev, that is an old photo, before I started using the metal ID tags. Most of those plants were established, but a few were not. We got into the low 100's that year, everything was burning up, so I provided the shade cloth for the semps. They loved it and did quite well in all that heat.

Lynn, I guess I was wondering if you had a separate area for "acclimation" or do you plant new gotten plants from online nurseries or trades directly into your now cinder block beds.

It depends on the time of year. If it is early in the year I plant them directly into one of the beds. If it is later in the season, say May and later, I plant in trays like you do.
