This is a newly planted bed that contains mostly succulents. The soil is clay, so I added lots of forest type compost to break up the clay. I also added coarse sand and chicken grit to increase drainage during the rainy season.
It is a west facing bed and gets sun during the hottest part of the day. Winter and spring is our rainy season, and rains pretty much all the time from January to May. From July through September we usually get no rain, it becomes very dry during those months.

Thank you Marilyn. Group hug

I put this bed together the middle of June. Sure hope it continues growing well. There are some other small plant starts that you can't see in this photo.
One of them is the new delosperma I brought home from NM. It has bright orange blooms and large pale colored leaves. Very different. It's suppose to bloom all growing season. There is also another type of miniature Lewisia in the bed, along with an evergreen azalea that I keep pruned small (kind of bonsai style), rose bush, a couple of amaryllis, crocosmia and a bottle brush bush. You can see a bit of a branch in the upper right corner of the photo.
It is a pretty good sized bed. Bulbs come up in the spring.

Thank you Dave. I got that this last spring from Rite Aid drugstore. That one holds about 2 gallons of soil. They had some really fun containers this year, and they were selling the for 1/2 price.
I don't think it will hold up under freezing and thawing, so I'll have to put it on the covered deck during the winter. Just give it tiny sips of water a few times during those few freezing months.
