I am growing a double purple that came from the co-op and could use some help with it. It has a branch growing from the caudex that is blooming single pink and white flowers. The grafted branch is a very nice double purple. I am wondering if I should cut off the single blooming branch? Is there a special way to do it so it won't grow back? Would it be best to wait until the double branch is done blooming? The plant is going to be rather ugly without the single branch. Is there a way I can get it to branch out more and look better? I am fairly new to growing adenium, although I do have one that has lived a number of years inspite of my poor care.

I personally like the look of two different flowers on one plant, but you can cut the extra branch off anytime - just cut it flush with the caudex. Maybe put some cinnamon on it to keep it from rotting.
After your Double Purple blooms are done, I would cut the branch about 2/3 down and it will then start branching.

cinnamon!! One thing I have found about the grafted adeniums the host root stock constantly wants to sprout new growth, so I have a ritual of pinching the caudex clean.

That's exactly it. For a while it doesn't look very nice but then afterwards you'll be glad you did it.

I got several of those plants and they all are trying to play giraffe. (just growing up and up and up)

I keep wanting to try grafting onto--into a caudex to get more branches. Someone over in the Yahoo group drills holes in a caudex and sticks a branch in and it takes sometimes. She said if it doesn't grow, you just have a hole in your caudex.

Hum, those pesky unwanted rootstock branches could be used to graft a bit of the top that you want--??

So if I cut the single flowering branch and left a stump, I could graft a piece of the double top stem that I cut off onto the stump?

Yup. Be sure to leave enough 'stump' to try again if the graft doesn't take. Both plants should be well fed and watered at the time. But not watered to rotting point.
