The bane of digital cameras is their inability to see the color purple. What makes this so bad is that it's not consistent! Sometimes camera sees it perfectly but most of the time purple comes out blue. So I start fiddling with the settings .. the ones for daylight, cloudy, incandescent etc. I have found that by changing the settings that sometimes the color purple comes out true. Oddly enough, if I set mine to flash setting but don't use the flash that camera obliges with the true color - occasionally.

The first picture is of Clematis rooguchi with normal daylight settings - not the true color. The second picture is with the camera set on flash but flash was not used - true color. The pictures are of the exact same flower taken within minutes of each other.

Who knew digital cameras could be so schizophrenic!

That is interesting. But, how do you set your camera to flash setting without it actually activating the flash? Unless you have a fancy, expensive camera, which I most emphatically do not! Hilarious!

I'm saving up for a fancy expensive camera actually .. mine's not exactly a point and shoot though .. Cybershot DSC-H5 .. and I don't use the point and shoot setting since I was a photographer before the utterly awesome digital camera was born and it didn't take me long to learn how to use the digital. If your camera is a point and shoot you probably don't have the settings on your camera .. if you can take it off automatic and make it manual as far as settings, you'll probably be able to find it in your menu. You want to find something that lets you choose the kind of light .. daylight, cloudy, incandescent etc.

Oh yeah! Manual settings. Hmmm, I have that on my old, expensive, dying Sony. Have to check out the new little guy. Smiling

It was your influence, X, that motivated me to buy a Sony DSC-H5. I now have another one, same model, as a back-up in case the first one croaks, and I had another one modified to capture infrared images. I need to use these devices more. If only I could do a direct transfer of the images from the camera to the web, that would be ideal.

What cameras are you looking at? Canon? Nikon? Sony NEX?

I really have no complaints about the DSC-H5 except for the color shifts ... I'm wanting a better one tho because I love macro and need the resolution and depth of field the DSC-H5 doesn't have and am hoping that the color shifting won't be a problem. I'm planning on spending up to a thousand dollars and am looking at them all .. when i get them narrowed down to a few I'll see if I can find them to test purple on as I'm finding that some of the super fancy expensive cameras still have purple problems .. almost leaning toward Nikon. Almost.
