A year after I posted this leaf, the entire hosta tested positive for HVX. I believe the plant was infected from the time I bought it in 2006. The signs were very subtle, so much so that I kept a leaf in the kitchen for a few days before deciding to use a test strip, but if one looks carefully at my 2012 pics, the signs are there and probably in my earlier pictures too. It really serves to reinforce why we must continually be vigilant in cleaning our tools. My last hosta to be ID'd with HVX was in 2007 and I was beginning to think my garden was clear.
