I remeber someone telling me(not that long ago) that dill hates growing with something........but I can't remember what it was. Tomatos maybe? Is there anything that it grows really well with?

Carrots Love Tomatoes says dill grows well with cabbage. It grows well in the holes left by beets. Light sowings may be made with lettuce, onions or cucumbers.

Dill does not do well by carrots & will reduce the growth of carrots if allowed to go to seed.

The black swallowtail butterfly lays its eggs on dill, fennel, and parsley. Its beautiful black and gold caterpillars are ravenous eaters. Personally I don't like butterflies well enough to put up with the damage from the caterpillars.

I hope this helps. If I find more information I'll post it.

GOD bless and keep each of you.

Is it okay to plant dill with peas? I mistakenly put some with the peas I planted out today. Confused

Thank-you Leaflady! Does dill do well near tomatos? I seem to remember they don't get along or maybe I'm remembering that they don't get along with carrots. I've had the black swallowtail cats before and used to kill them not knowing what they were........but after finding out they are butterflys I can't bear to kill them. But what I do hate is cabbage moths! ARGH! But I'll start another thread about that.......

Steven, it seems to me I have had dill near tomatoes. I don't remember if there was a reduction in production in the tomatoes.

Dill will also attract the dreaded tomato horn worm! So plant it away from your tomatoes. Dill does well with lettuce and is a good friend to cabbage. Last year my dill and parsley grew very well side by side.

I have grown dill with carrots... well I say that but the carrots never really grew! LOL they were puny little stringy things! Then when I relocated the dill, the carrots did grow a bit more but it took them a year! They weren't bad but didn't have much flavor & they were still smaller than the average for that variety.

dill is known to deter carrot root fly, however.

I love heirloom tomatoes & plan to grow a few varieties myself.

I was part of a seed swap last year and the Host lives in Canada, don't recall which part... but anyway, it took two weeks for mail to get from there to here and vice-versa! Crazy Eh?

Anywhoo, you will probably be growing more than three kinds of tomatoes this year!! Whistling I'm just sayin'! LOL

Well I know for sure one is Black Cherry which is a very prolific early variety that is a favorite of many cherry tomato lovers, and it's a cool climate variety! I don't remember the other two varieties I sent... Oh I think I sent Ararat Flamed, another heirloom tomato! I guess the third will be a surprise!!

Thank-you SO much! I think Black Cherry is one of the ones I wanted to get this year! I'm not familiar with the other one so I'll have to look it up.

I was counting in 1 tomato from you so I guess I will have 5! WOO!
